I have a few Virtual Console Games that I created by injecting a ROM into a pre-existing Virtual Console game. Is it possible to edit the game manual so that it is the same as the new game and not the original Virtual Console game?

In this situation I injected Link's Awakening for Gameboy Color into the Minish Cap Virtual Console game. I have extracted and decrypted the Manual.bfma but am not sure how to edit the contents.

I guess it's not possible and it will never be, but who knows if one day it can be done ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't know this for sure or anything but you might be able to swap them through FTP. But I wouldn't recommend it there could be a brick risk. Not worth it ultimately.

No he means like change them to make like a link's awakening manual instead of the minish cap that comes with it, also unless he doesn't touches something important of the system he shouldn't have a brick

Yes I understand exactly what he meant. If any sort of file is involved (he said there is a manual.bfma) he can likely swap the manuals through ftp.

That doesn't seem to be the issue either though. Seems like they need to be able to know how to edit the .bfma to begin with, and as of now it doesn't seem like there is a way on our end to do so. I understand you can use UWizard to extract the .bfma into an .xml and some .arc files, but from there no progress was ever made further toward editing the manuals. Maybe more can be done, but I'm not finding anything documented on it.

Edit: I'm exploring this myself, using Wexos's Toolbox to open these .arc files when extracted, it may be possible to edit these manuals yet. Hopefully UWizard can pack up the .bfma file as well, I'll update as I find out more.

might be possible. though, some games could be tricky. if you've ever played star tropics, one of the puzzles in the game required you to get the actual instruction manual wet. there's a button to do that in the vc game. and, I think there's a part in one of the zelda games on the ds where you have to close the lid to solve a puzzle. I'm not sure if they're part of the manual (star tropics might be since it was originally) or the screen. it's unlikely there's a brick risk. if a game is corrupted on the wii u, it will just show a question mark tile along with three question marks for the game name. iirc, you can see this if you install system config tool to sysnand, then go into rednand with both linked. it's the only app/game that does that by default. anyway, the game won't open. just don't try it on a cbhc game. the rom.zip is the only thing iirc that's used for cbhc, but like I said, the game won't open if a file is corrupted even if it's something innocent like a game icon.

This is about as far as I got as well. Some of the .arc files had JPEG files but others had what look like a nested list of archive files but I didn't recognize the extension.

This is exactly what I was looking to do.

There are no .bfma editors, but you can create a new manual from scratch with WiiU-ManualEditor.

It's a SDK tool, but you can find it with a bit of searching.

Cannot find the tool, looks like I am at another dead end. I did read however that in the file meta.xml the game uses the value from <reserved_flag2 type="hexBinary" length="4"> to contact the Nintendo servers and pull a manual.

I just checked, and I couldn't find it either. Don't worry, I can always upload it somewhere. ;)
