Apple iPod won't connect to computer

My friends iPod touch won't connect to her computer. It works on my computer, so it sounds like something wrong with the laptop rather than with the iPod.
When trying to restore the iPod (on the computer that it won't connect to) she gets error 1611.
The iPod charges, it just won't show up on iTunes.

Any suggestions?

Usually that means the "Apple Mobile Device" service hasn't started. I had this same problem with a friend of mine as well. First, reinstall iTunes and if that doesn't work (I assume she's using Windows 7?) Go into Control Panel, go to Administrative Tools, Services, see if you can find "Apple Mobile Device". When you do, if it's stopped start it and if it's already started than stop and start it. Should work fine after that. If not try switching USB ports and doing the above.
