I've been using 3.1.2 firmware for good time now and I doesn't really know what's going on with iPhones front recently. I've done some googling and I found out that slowdown and battery drain issues are fixed since 4.1 firmware. So, is it worth it? The most important thing is that I can unlock the phone again if I upgrade my iPhone to 4.1 firmware at least.

Actually, iOS4 on a 3G is a pretty bad idea. It slows down considerably and you hardly get any of the features (no customizable wall-paper, no multi-tasking...) However, jailbreaking could prove useful, but your battery will hate you for it.

That's why I haven't upgraded it yet. But I found news article that said that problem was fixed in 4.1 firmware update. I like to upgrade mainly because of compatibility for newer apps.

Yeah, I upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS4, then 4.1 and even 4.2 and it's been near-on useless the entire time. If it isn't acting really slow, it's freezing instead. It's pretty obvious they're phasing out this model, since even most new games actually worth getting don't even work on it.

Which sucks.
