Not that they implemented any measures to stop iTouch owners from loading the previous updates for free.

Good to hear it's free though, unlike 3.0

ios even compatible with your iToaster now, just plug in your toaster to your USB socket and update firmware. Now toasts bread and prints money at the same time with multitasking, which btw I've been using for ages with a jailbreak app...

Oh and also this will mean if we update, we can wait for a new jailbreak which is likely never to come if apple are offering this for FREE, they have something up their sleeve.

The only reason I even jailbreak my iPod touch is put a background on the springboard.
Looks like 4.0 will actually let you do that yourself now...

Finally a company is doing something RIGHT when it comes to stoping the hacking of their systems. When they block jailbreaking, the sceners take it as a challange and have a new jailbreak within a few months at most. But this time Apple is actually including the features people want and use with Jailbreaks, so average users won't really want to jailbreak.

Everytime I see iOS I'm going to think Wii.
Same here.

What's the point for iPod Touch 2nd Gen users? All we get are folders, some email updates, and the game center. They don't even let 2nd Gens change the background!
The only real new thing in 4.0 that I can't already do with Cydia apps/system tweaks is the Game Center.

iPod announcements generally come in September.

I don't get the fuss about jailbreaking. Apple should stop being so arrogant. Cydia offers possibilities for piracy, but doesn't support it (from what I've seen). When trying to install on my sister's iPod Cydia gave me a warning that Hackulo had been removed from the official sources list because of illegal software and stuff.
All jailbreaking does is enable you to run 3rd party software, there shuold be nothing wrong with that. The fact that there is an app that lets you pirate apps doesn't mean jailbreaking is bad
[/rant]
Also, if i get an iPod, I'm not gonna download this until a spirit-like jailbreak for it is released.

Whether or not Cydia actually supports it is irrelevant, as that doesn't really stop anyone.

Two of the major uses for jailbreaking are:

1) Pirating AppStore apps.

2) Applying software-based baseband unlocks.

Neither of these are good for Apple, so it makes sense on their part to do what they can to make jailbreaking inconvenient.

You might care if your device gets fucked up and you need to ship it back.

Its generally easy to restore to factory-state though.
