Hacking Internal Hard Drive for Wii mod

I probably missed this, but why USB Loader requires the DVD drive to work? This could be fixed in a near future? Because my drive is screwed and sometimes I can't play games. :/
I can't tell you why but I can tell you you'll probably be fine.
You don't need to read a disc or anything for the USB loader to work you just need the drive to be recognised, as in attached to the Wii and not malfunctioning to the point the Wii couldn't recognise it as a DVD drive.
Unless it screwed because you damaged the control board for the drive I doubt you have any real worries.
I'd say if you have intermittent reading problems with retail game discs then you probably have a problem with the laser in the drive. If backups are a problem it might come down to the burner/media combo used to create them.

I suck at coding, so don't quote me on this. I took a look at the code, and it seems like this.. when the Wii boots a disk, it gos through a security check process. I think USB loader takes the game's code and ID, then emulates it, making the Wii think that there's a game in the DVD drive. If your DVD drive is only partially broken (like maybe the laser doesn't work), it should still work fine.

And jesus christ. Today I went to a parts store, to get a new cutting bit for my dremel. It was $13! For a two inch long piece of sharp metal! >:o

dude, cant wait for your tutorial on this! and yes, i believe more people will want this than the ones that dont. good luck

You probably bought a Dremel brand bit then?
Years ago I found some compatible bits for much much cheaper than the Dremel branded ones. Was not quite the same quality but if it wears out twice as fast I don't mind when it cost about 1/5th the price.
No longer have the Dremel or the bits but if you look around I reckon you'll find some third party bits without too much difficulty.

Man you are so dumb. If you want a wii with a hard drive theres only one goo solution... steal one from the Nintendo world store. duh....

they're probably doing the same thing we're all doing now, just using a USB HDD, but they just tuck it underneath a pedestal so you can't see the the actual drive, I highly doubt that it's actually integrate into the machine, and judging from your post, you don't even know that we can load games through USB...
*faceplam* You people should be allowed online.

dude there are so many dumb people in the world... not pointing out any names

but seriously, how would u go about stealing one of those wiis from nintendo store when they are huge and probably bolted to the floor. u go ahead andtry it. i cant wait to see ur ass kicked on the news XD

It has been mentioned many times that there will be a tutorial, just a few posts ago even.
I think the idea of USB Loader is to play games, whether they are played on this modded machine or not is up to whoever uses it. I would be surprised if the OP wasn't going to mod his games console so that it could play games from a HDD if they had no intention of playing games on it...

What's the moral of a mod though? that has me intrigued. I thout a moral was something a story had and can't see how it would apply to a console mod.
Or do you mean 'the moral of the story is, if you like the look of a stock Wii and want to play games off an internal storage device... It's possible' sort of thing?

*facepalm* again? It's a joke people. Damn you guys are slow minded.

how difficult was the de-solder + completing the circuit? I have the same problem as you when it comes down to the CD-Drive. My ribbon from the Wii's Motherboard is missing it's end connector, so I can't hook up the CD Drive. can you be a little more descriptive on the part to desolder?

the fact of the matter is that it wasn't a funny or clever joke to begin with. I see you have over 1000 posts, but the majority of them are probably all "hilarious" jokes that make you look retarded, just because we don't laugh or react positively to what you think is funny, doesn't mean we don't get the joke, it's just funnier to make fun of you while you struggle to understand that the real joke is you. You like fish sticks?

actually my boards on my cd drive are busted, so i guess there's no way for me to get this USB Loader working. :/

I ordered the hard drive about five minutes ago. I "overnighted" it..But I have a feeling it won't make it saturday, meaning that it'll come in monday since there's no mail services on sunday.

I'm hoping to have a tutorial done for you guys monday night, but if not, I promise you it'll be finished tuesday.

EDIT:
Unless my hard drive comes in saturday, or course. But being that I ordered it so late, i doubt.

This seemed the most relevant place for this. I've got a 64gig flash drive and I'm going to add that internally so I've a good selection of games always available. If I do this will I need a way to disconnect the internal flash drive before I can use a USB hard drive? If I don't will it be a matter of luck which mass storage device gets detected or will the loader just fail?

If you use the 64gb and install it my way, you can easily switch between the hard drives.
