How viable is to install a linux distro to a 32gb sd card? I mean, will it damage the card after a while, will it run too slow? I just want a portable linux installation with persistent storage but I'm not sure if an sd can handle it or if it is even worth installing it to one.

Sure. In fact this is how many linux live USBs are set up, with persistant storage enabled. Endurance for standard NAND flash is about 10000 write cycles, that would probably take years of use to reach.

Good to hear, also I read somewhere it was to format it to ext2 rather than ext4 because of something about journaling. Does this extends the live of the sd or avoids cutting it?
