Hello!

I've started modding my console, everything went fine so far - CBHC up and running, and figured out how to back up my Wii U discs. May be stupid, but I couldn't really find answers to the following questions (or it confused me a bit when reading thru the threads, so for clarity's sake):

1) If I want to save the backups (on a HDD/PC) for a later (WUP) install, is it sufficient to just copy the files disc2app creates, or do I need to convert them or something?

2) Do I need to hack vWii to be able to launch Wii/GC games from the Wii u menu?
In a previous thread of mine, somebody said this wasn't nescessary these days.
I've read into the WiiVC injector (TeconMoon's one), and there is no mentioning of that?
Even further, Nintendont is not mentioned there either?

This left me baffled, as the next thing on my checklist was to get Nintendont and then move my Wii/GC library over to the Wii U with the injection thingy.
What is the correct way to get Wii/GC games running on the Wii U?

Hello and sry for pushing, but I'm kinda stuck atm.

I've managed to inject (install) a GC game to my Wii U menu (which was pretty self-explanatory), but I fail miserably in figuring out how to get it to actually work.

Shouldn't this work without hacking the vWii? I've even installed Nintendont as a "channel" on my Wii U menu, and I can start Nintendont and stuff. Problem is, when trying to start the GC game, I end up on a blackscreen.

Any ideas what I could/should do?
Best start modding my vWii too?

Well... Uhhhmmm, Install nintendont as a channel on the Wii U menu is not hard. Indeed, you need to previous hack you´re vWii. Nintendont requires:
- The official unpatched IOS58.
- The Homebrew Channel v1.0.7 or newer, running on IOS58.
So it will never run if you do not expire with these requirements.

Besides that, if you don´t wanna use nintendont and wiiflow as i do... you can use as someone tell to you, Virtual Console Inject. But i can´t help you with that cause i don´t use VC Injection method.
Psdt: i´ve hacked mi vWii like 3 year´s ago with this good tutorial: https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-definitive-vwii-hacking-guide.425852/
I think in my own experience, than modding vWii and installing nintendont (for GC obviously), and Wiifloow (for Wii games obviously), are the most confortable methods to play those games... i never got problems and have both of those games on my Usb memory.

Thank you, mates, much appreaciated!

So I've hacked my vWii now. Didn't bother setting up USBLoader GX and Nintendont there, but "installed" them.

My plan/intention is to have the GC games as injected on the Wii U menu.
I got this working now I guess (game starts and is playable), BUT 2 major problems:

As soon as I specify some Nintendont settings (via TeconMoon's injector), the game wont start any longer or the Wii U crashes/turns off in the process.

This means on the one hand I can't go widescreen, on the other hand I can't enable save games / Memcard emulation.

What am I missing here? Any tips on handling that specific problem?
There is so much information on this board, yet scattered around to leave me searching for weeks :D

Memcard emulation is easy to solve. Start nintendont, then press B (settings), Then look for enable virtual Memory card and that´s it. For Widescreen is the same. you have to enable it on nintendont.

Try setting everything up proper on the vwii side first

Thanks, that seems to have solved this problem for now, though I still don't understand why it occured in the first place. I hope the rest of my process will be rather hassle-free :D

In case someone has the same/similar problems, here's what I did to get the GC inject running:

1) Hack vWii
2) Install Nintendont on vWii (on SD)
3) Try Nintendont with a Backup (.iso) of the game to see if everything works on the vWii side.
Configure it (MemCard, Aspect Ration, etc.)

4) Install the inject created with TeconMoon's Script

https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-wiivc-injector-script-gc-wii-homebrew-support.483577/

via WUPinstaller to Wii U (NAND or USB doesn't matter I guess).

5) I now have the game on my Wii U menu, working and using the settings specified in 3).

Thanks again to both of you for your support!

You’re welcome! Just paying it forward as I’ve been helped by many in this community. we are all glad you got it sorted!

remenber forced widescreens can break some games, not all games like being forced to widescreen.

So I've put this to rest too early I fear. Yesterday, the GC injects worked fine - imagine the smile on my face.
Today, however, I have a strange problem I've tried to figure out for the last few hours by testing out theories.
It would be super awesome if some hero could dip in and enlighten me on what or why this is happening.

(Btw: Wii Injects and everthing else so far works fine)

My setup:
  • CBHC, modded vWii, Nintendont working flawlessly on vWii side (.iso from SD to test).

  • 2,5 USB HDD for games, plugged into the back of the Wii U with a Y cable (no external power supply).

  • GC Injects installed on USB HDD.

My problem:
The injects regularly, but still randomly (I wasn't able to pin down a pattern / the reason) fail to boot up the games - it results in a blackscreen and the Wii U freezing to the point I have to pull the plug.
My first guess was that this could be due to the fact that I pull the plug of my electronics when going to sleep, so I tested this theory, and in the beginning this seemed to cause it - till the games started randomly working despite of doing that.

So, this drives me to the brink of insanity as I can't see what's behind this strange error -
I can't reproduce this on purpose.

If you look at the Nintendont-Log below you see the last try of me:
  1. Launching the game via vWii - HBC - Nintendont. All fine, no problemo.
  2. Go back to Wii U menu. Then the first try load the gam via the inject, which failed. I had to pull the plug.
  3. Tried the inject again, and it worked.

Like, wtf? :( Have done tries like that numerous times now with different games & injects, can't see a pattern (except vWii-Nintendont always working).

Anyone got an idea what I could try to do next?

Should I just ditch the GC Injects and go for a different solution like a loader?

all i can say its timmings issue, seems your wiiu mode has timings issues and timmings dont go well with nintendont, tryed putting the games on wiiu nand instead?
also you use what cfw?

Thanks for the response!

Haven't tried that yet - as long as you mean installing the inject on NAND. Will test this next and see if there's a difference / the problem gone.

Using HaxChi (CBHC) on Wii U side.

EDIT:

So before trying the install to NAND, I've tried the inject yet again - as stated in my post before, it just maddens me not to know what causes the freeze / problem.

Just for clarity: If everything works correctly, it shouldn't matter what I select when starting the inject, right?
(use gamepad (YES/NO), use TV only / TV & gamepad)

Even though I know the sample I just took does not proove anything, it may be useful for narrowing down the core of my problem - I've read thru several other posts/threads handling the problem in slightly different variations by now, but have not been able to find an applicable solution / a pattern of the problem.

After the steps mentioned in the table, the inject of the same game was launched everytime (nothing else happened or was changed inbetween the tries) and I was always selecting "use gamepad: YES".

Conclusion (would be funny if someone could confirm this):
Shutting down the Wii U while in vWii mode causes problems when trying to launch injects.

I guess it will still not be what fixes my problem :D but if the injects won't work for now, and installing to NAND doesn't do anything, I will probably just set up my vWii to be more reminiscent of my Wii mod and launch the GC's from there...
