I installed the homebrew channel no problem, but when i go to install cios the controller just freezes. Any reason why this is would be happening?

You need to use ModMii, and tell it its a virgin wii.
Also, if your controller freezes, it may be a newer, Wii Motion plus controller, use a old wii mote for the hack.
