Did you read the first post? The whole point of this thread was a tutorial on how to get CFW on a slim without a phat, and how to mod a battery!

Yep, I've got an official one that came with my PSP but don't want to open it up. The Datel MAX POWER silver LB 1000 is mentioned in the Pandora FAQ as fully compatible - it's just that I can't find it documented anywhere which wire to cut :'(

Here's a photo of the battery, can someone please identify the correct pin to cut. Maaaany thanksÂ

It's fully compatible in the Pandora FAQ, because you can softmod it with the Pandora Battery Creator homebrew programs that need a downgraded PSP to work.
It's probably possible to hardmod it anyway, but I haven't seen anyone saying how to yet.
If you got 1337 enough soldering skills to solder a wire back if you screwed up, you might try out the right-bottom (left-top in your picture, you got it upsidedown) one of the Chip with the big dot on it though. As all other batteries work that way: http://www.pspmod.com/forums/hardware/2618...d-pictures.html
But I haven't tried anything myself or heard of anyone trying it, so might be a better idea to wait for someone who has hardmodded it anyway.
wait so, is there a way to get custom firmware on a slim without needing another psp (phat) or needing to buy another battery?

I just want to be able to get custom firmware by just downloading stuff and not messing with the hardware
You need to hardmod a real battery, or buy a tool battery. Seeing you don't want to hard mod a real one, you don't know anyone with a phat PSP and you're not planning to buy an other tool battery, you're still out of luck.

if their is anyone in the uk who wants custom firmware installed on their psp or they have bricked it trying to install one and cant do it themselves i would be more than willing to do it for them as long as they pay the postage both ways (special delivery)

Right, I had a go at modding my Datel battery; the battery still works after I removed the pin - but no service mode. Took the plunge and opened my Slim battery, nearly screamed like a little girl when the sparks came flying out lol... Anyhoo, hard modded it and stuck to this guide. Didn't work the first time, I think the guide could be a little clearer here:

Press Enter.

Then Plug it Back in the Adapter or PSP (whichever you where using)
AND SWITCH USB MODE BACK ON

Press Enter.

Then Choose 4 and press Enter, it will then proceed to copy files to the memory stick.

It says to switch USB back on in the installer but I was looking at the guide too closely to notice. No biggie, did a reformat and started again. Reinserted memory card, turned USB back on and installed option 4. Must says it's a bit crazy pressing the buttons and having a blank screen, with just a few lights turning on and off - but I got there in the end and I'm now the proud owner of 3.71 M33 custom firmware.

Would love to of got it to work with my Datel but looks like I'll have to leave that for another day ... I've got SNES games to play! hehe

Cheers ediblebird , have one on me

i would not mind offering a unbricking/custom firmware installing service.as long as the person does not mind sending me their psp or meeting me if they dont trust the postal service.i'd be happy to help someone have homebrew on their psp.just p.m. me.if i can't post this sort of thing then just remove or delete.....................sudeki300

While you don't need a phat, you'll need another battery - the easiest is to just buy a Datel TOOL Battery so you don't have to "mess with the hardware" (i.e. modifying a battery).

I also read that someone with a phat psp call help by some how soft modding my (slim) psp battery?

I have several friends with (phat) psps but not sure what firmware they have...

You can make a Pandora Battery with a homebrew enabled PSP with softmodding[either custom firmwared or 1.5 FW PSP]. Hardmodding is just for if you don't have an access to that kind of PSP.

thanks for pointing that step out(i left it out by accident), i updated the guide. And boy it seems like you can almost do anything to a slim battery and its still usable

Just want to say thank you for the tutorial.

I successfully installed 3.71 M33 last night with no problems.

I see it only says 64MB to 4GB in size, regarding the memory card.

But would it work with a 8GB sized memory card? Anyone know?

8GB doesn't belong in the 64MB to 4GB range, so nope. I believe it had something to do with pandora using the 1.50 kernel and 8GB MSPD support was added in a later firmware...

Again regarding this...

What about using 8 Gig memory cards after the flashing is done?

For example, i have a 8 gig card, I flash with a cheap 256 MB card, and then put content on my 8 gig card. Would there at any point be any incompatibilities with the 8 GB size?

Also, does anyone know if there's any performance differences between sony & sandisk memory cards? I'm planning on getting an 8 gig card, either sony or sandisk due to the similar pricing, and want to be sure I shouldn't spend my money on some sort of Ultra III card for photographers or whatever they're called, to avoid game slowdown and stuff like that.

Yeah you can use the 8GB card after you have installed custom firmware. The only real difference between sony and sandisk cards is the that sandisk are usually cheaper, their performance is pretty much on par with each other.

This is from the thread Some PSP games are not working:

QUOTE(hollabackitsobi @ Dec 30 2007, 02:56 PM)Fake memory stick is what I instantly thought when I heard the symptoms of your problem. Corrupted data is VERY common, and I suggest buying a good Sandisk, their Ultra II line is GREAT for gaming, and reduces load times and power consumption very noticeably, I'd recommend the 4GB.

That's the reason I was asking about the Ultra line. I can pay the same money for 8GB Sony & 8 GB Sandisk cards, but if I want the Ultra II line it's more expensive. Questions is, will that really reduce load times and power consumption vs Sony card? Maybe the regular Sandisk already is better than the Sony, or maybe they're both inferior to it. I've searched but found no performance comparison of different sticks online whatsoever.
Just curious if anyone got some experience with this subject.

Bought a PSP Slim today with a 4GB Memory stick Pro Duo and tried to modify the battery, somehow I did something wrong and the battery won't even start now and not showing green light on the psp either but the PSP works fine with the AC plugged in so I ordered a Battery Tool for Slim and it will arrive later this week. The best thing with the battery tool is that it BOTH works as a Pandora battery and ordinary battery and I got it for a good price too.

really? what kind of battery is that? never heard of it

The Datel one, AFAIK, only works in service mode

Special TOOL version of our PSP battery works in exactly the same way as a standard SONY PSP battery BUT has the ability to put your PSP into service mode for custom firmware use.

TOOL battery is just a pandora battery. You can only use it to install CFW. You'll need another battery to play your PSP.
