Hardware Incompetent Wii Disc Drive

Hello! I have had a Wii for about 11 years now, and all of a sudden it stopped reading all discs. When I hear the noises the disc drive makes, it seems that the Wii tries to figure out what the disc is, but fails. However, it does not make any clicking noises when reading the disc. It tries to read the disc as it normally would, but eventually the sound stops and I must try again. I use the Wiimmfi patcher on the Homebrew Channel to let me play Mario Kart Wii online after Nintendo shut down the WiFi Channel. Because this patcher continues to try and load discs after they fail to load, I leave it as it is. When the problem first started, this process only took about 15 minutes for the disc to successfully load. Now, after a month, it takes usually more than 24 hours for the disc to successfully load. This is starting to become quite an issue. Once the game successfully loads, there are no issues during game play, and everything is normal. It just takes entirely way too long for any disc at all to load, and is becoming increasingly longer. This must mean that the disc drive isn’t dead; but then what is the problem? Let me know your thoughts, please! This is becoming a huge problem, as I am not able to play any games.

Maybe I am missing something but why would you still be using the DVD drive to play games when you can run them from USB hard drive?

because I would assume running your games from USB hard drive will solve your DVD game disc reading issues and not to mention it's faster and puts less wear-and-tear on your DVD drive.

I'm uncertain if this is still the case, but the MKW online homebrew creators weren't fans of piracy/backup loading at all and implemented checks to make sure that you were actually using a real disc. There may be workarounds, but loading off a USB drive isn't a perfect solution to everything.

It doesn’t look like they ban them judging by the patching guides I’ve seen, may be worth asking on the forums.

As for your drive, it may be that the lens is dirty or failing.

Wiimmfi can be patched on ISO images by the way, but CTGP still requires the original disc. You might get away with a dirty disc/lens with CTGP though, my MKWii disc is scratched but works with it.

but lets just say his DVD drive is shot. I think you can get replacements for roughly $20 on Ebay.

I've read that you can still use cioscorp or similar.
I remember using an emunand once that loaded isos to the disc channel like if the disc was inserted. I think it was sneek, that should work.
