Gaming In light of the recent banning wave, should I flash my 360?

I bought a 360 at the very end of this summer (as in, I got it the day I headed off to college), and due to my only owning a laptop I haven't had a chance to flash it yet. I was planning on borrowing a friend's desktop to flash my 360 soon, or do it at the Christmas break, but now I'm wondering if I should hold off a bit.

I haven't been into the 360 scene for a while. Now that iExtreme 1.4 is proven to be insecure, is it likely that there will be a fixed firmware coming out soon? Like, how much time was between 1.3, 1.4, etc?

Also, I don't actually plan to play online much. I'd just hate to be locked out from the Xbox Live Arcade Shop and miss out on Arcade games like Braid.

Any inside would be helpful.

I suggest you waint until AFTER the NXE is released next week, ixtreme 1.5 is rumored to be released soon after that so that's why I'm gonna wait to flash my new 360

Since you don't have a desktop of your own I'd wait. I feel more secure using my SH-D163B drive to make my own backups as it eliminates one variable in getting banned. However nothing is 100% so if you flash you need to be prepared to be banned. As of now I am on a BenQ drive with 1.4 and still not banned. I've played my backups online including games like Burnout Paradise however till the dust settles I am still using my originals of Saints Row 2 and World At War. Today I was actually nervous even updating Saints Row 2 original wondering if somehow the patch had flashed drive detection. I say I was nervous as while I expect to get banned eventually I am not anxious for it. And as others say I will not stay off the service as fear of going online is essentially the same as getting banned.

Just my two cents

Thanks for the quick responses. Yeah, I guess it was a little premature to be calling 1.4 unsecured. I'm just a casual gamer, so I don't need to get Gears of War or COD 5 a few days before everyone else, etc. I guess it'd be a shame to get banned, but it's not really worth it to drop 60 dollars just to see if Mirror's Edge lives up to it's hype. I'll probably wait till next month then, and see what happens in the wake of the NXE n' such.
