Hardware Improved disc reading?

It states on wiibrew.org that 3.4 features "Improved disc reading".. well what exactly does that mean? See, My tales of smyphonia 2 backup makes the dvd-drive work extremely much, making it all pretty noisy and me worried about the lens. Would this improve upon that? Or is it simply just faster load-times?
