i have always been under the impression the the reason why we couldnt get a top notch snes emu on the ds (or the gba) for that matter has always been the audio problem. I am pretty sure the snes games have 16 tracks of audio that to work on the DS/GBA have to be down converted to 2 tracks stereo.

the psp however has 16 track audio, so it was easier.

there are also some games like star fox and chrono trigger that have an extra chip in the actual game that is hard to emulate.

Something like this would be awesome. I would pay moneys for that...

If you are willing to pay money for emulation of SNES on the go then simply grab yourself a PSP, SNES + many other emulated systems = Win.

I'm fairly certain the SNES has 8 channels of audio, 4L and 4R. The processor was 16bit and it accepted 8bit samples. Now the GBA just has 2 channels going through its own chip, though more channels could be made using the GB/C subprocessor in tandem, some games like Chu Chu Rocket use it plenty. The DS though I'm fairly certain has more than just 1L and 1R channel of audio. I was not sure and went to look it up, and the DS has 16 channels of ADPCM/PCM sound output which is also surround sound capable too.

The DS is super capable of insanely good audio, just not many have bothered trying which is sad.

Yeah.. that's a great idea!!!  We can also make a patcher that makes N64 roms with .toast extension so we can all play it on our toasters!

I like toast

Standard quoting ettiquette rules state that it's generally bad form to quote an entire post just for a two word response.

Agreed.

I agree with your logic too, but theres a difference between ettiquette and law, and at the time i posted what i thought was appropriate.

I'm pretty certain Chrono Trigger didn't have any extra chips

Yes you're right, CT has no special chips.

I wish I could remember the lot for the US titles but I'm aware of outside the obvious FX chipped games (which are marked) Street Figher Alpha 2(SDD1 compression chip), Mario RPG and Kirby DLand3 (SA-1,) Megaman X2 and 3 (C4) and a few others aside from the 10~ I didn't list branded with the FX1/2 labeled stuff.
