.... After buying it three times.

The second form of Orphan was a bit of an anti-climax, I also found it hilarious that it took me ages to fight the first form of Orphan yet when Lightning and co. come back from wherever they was, it only took two fire hits to 'kill' him.

Still, going to the actual ending, My Hands fit well with it and made me all emotional and shit especially when Serah and Dajh was walking and he was talking about Chocobos ;____;

How did you end up buying it three times? I can imagine once for the 360 and another for the PS3.

I'm at the final boss, I have no motivation to play it though.

I bought it on release for 360, got to the third disc, impulsed and sold my 360.
Got a new 360 many months later, bought FFXIII with it, got to the third disc, impulsed and sold my 360.

And here I am now with my PS3 which I love forever.

Same here, I got pretty much right up to the end and realised that beating every game in the series just isn't that damned important when I'm not enjoying it any more. FF13 was a massive kick in my balls. I left my save file as it was, watched the last twenty minutes or so on Youtube and I consider it done with. Fuck it.

though the story itself was pretty good along with the graphics being top notch (of course, its SE) half the characters where either over the top or cliche...to a horrible degree. On top of that i could not stand stuff like the very automated combat system that just felt simple compared to the old games. The non open world portion sucked, way too much time in tiny corridors. (how do you make it so linear after coming off FF12???)...the biggest crime though was the extras...FF games are always packed to the brim with secrets and extras like mini games, super weapons, super bosses..ect

i bought it 2x myself, but had to struggle to finish it.

also same here, i ended up watching the ending online.

and though 13-2 looks better, i just cant get myself to care much about it, there are still some issues i have with it, mainly being a huge complaint by most people...the combat system, which is barely changing. Il just be happy when they give us V13 and type zero, which look WAY more fun.

FFXIII is one of the most praised battle systems, what are you talking about?

i bought it 2x myself, but had to struggle to finish it.

The story had some potential but it was so poorly told it was laughable. I still don't even remember why half the characters are even there.

But the biggest crime is that it just doesn't FEEL like a Final Fantasy game. I personally play the series and others like it to lose myself in a fantasy world which has been designed from the ground up to be as immersive as possible. To suck us in and not let go for 40+ hours. I'll admit that some of the locations in FF13 were gorgeous, with Sunleath Waterscape being jaw-droppingly awesome on first viewing. But it felt like a tour, not an adventure. Nowhere to go, no deviating from the strict lines set before you. The open world segment was just a big field full of monsters. Nothing to find, no well hidden secret dungeons with extra summons or superweapons or anything. The whole game felt like it was a reboot of the series to connect with a new audience, who apparantly need their fuckin' hands held every step of the way. I found it insulting. Fine if you want to reach out to new crowds, you go ahead. But not with a series that's so well established and now in its 14th numbered installment with more spin-offs than all the world's greatest car crashes videos put together. You don't turn on your primary demographic like that. No matter how much you stand to gain from the 'casual' crowd. Fuck you, Square Enix. You showed your oldest fans no fucking loyalty, and that's why FF13 pisses me off.

That and it was boring.

Leaving aside all the comments...

Im a FF fan since I played it on the ps1, and I try to play every main FF (so far, I, IV, VIII, IX, X, X-2, going for XII) but I don't have a 360 or a ps3, so... what can you tell me about the game? I've heard comments of being very bad, and others just love it.

I'm playing Final Fantasy VII now on my PSP, and I gotta admit I enjoy it more than I did with Final Fantasy XIII, in terms of story, gameplay, characters, plot, the works.

That coming from a guy who absolutely hates turn-based battle systems.

Final Fantasy XIII had it's merits though. The battle system is fantastic, and I loved how characters were completely healed after every battle. It was fast paced and fresh; certainly a welcome addition to an old series.

Even if the story and characters of Final Fantasy XIII were confusing, irritating and slow at times, you gotta admit it was a pretty fun ride.

Well you need to leave behind the thought of other FFs before you play this game, like Blaze163 demonstrated he is too butthert over the fact they aren't like the older FFs.

Story wise, it's alright. Most character arcs are over before they're started and they become all buddy with each other, though Lightning is a pretty cool main character.

Gameplay? Well you have a 20 hour tutorial waiting before it fully opens up but you won't be going off into the other roles of characters anyway. Once it does open up, you have 64 (I think?) side missions to do, judging from my experience, anyone can easily do 30~ something of them within their first playthrough (once you beat the final boss, the last stage of the crystarium is opened and you can go back for more). Battles are fun and never boring because it's so fast paced (one fight down, fully healed after battle, next fight where?), even if you're pressing auto battle all the time (which you should, you will not be as good as what the AI picks out for you) it never gets dull.

Music is what makes the game too, the battle theme is one of my favourites.

If you're looking for a new FFVII, you look somewhere else.

I finished it a few months ago but I'm still struggling through the post-game stuff. Mission 64 is a pain in the arse, even with max'd characters.

EDIT: Typing this reply inspired me to pull my finger out. Just killed it with a laborious poison/tortoise method.
