In all seriousness, all I can think of is Final Cut Pro. But that is some fine piece of software, possibly the best editor on the market. Academy Award winners for best editing (most notably a bunch of David Fincher films like The Social Network or Zodiac) used it, a handful of Disney movies used it (Enchanted), they even used it for The Simpsons movie, True Grit, No Country for Old Men and A Single Man.

I digress. Yeah, it's probably best that you get a regular laptop, hackintosh, spraypaint it, add some logos and stickers, and boom. You're all set. It's probably safe to assume that they're not going to closely scrutinize each and every laptop.

i really don't think they require. i think they "only support" but to the people that say they can't require your to buy a certain something, you've never been to college. for starters they require you get specific edition of textbooks taht will add up to more than the cost of a mac any day.

My brother bought an ASUS laptop for college for $1000, and the thing is godly. It's cheaper and better in every way over a Mac. I would go against the school if I were you.

I say buy a cheaper laptop. Why spend 2000$ on a mac when you can get any other laptop for like 500$ and have all the same parts and pretty much all the same features. I don't see the reason why the school should force students to have to buy such an expensive brand in the first place. Hell I would protect and tell them if they are going to force me to buy an overpriced laptop, they better help pay at least part of the price for it.

I have a MacBook. Only thing I can say about it is that it looks good, no .exe support is terrible (wine or whatever else? a major pain to install, so fuck them). I would definitely choose a Windows laptop over it. Could've gotten a decent laptop + 3DS + games with the amount spent on the MacBook, and still have leftover money (whine). Just screw your school and get hackingtosh or whatever it is, fuck rules, especially retarded ones like this. It's your money, unless they help you pay for that overpriced thing, they can't tell you what to do with your fucking money.

I assume it's a private school that he's paying to go to which usually means a couple things...1. The people going there have money to buy their kids macs for high school 2. They can make whatever rules they want 3. Probably want everyone to fit in and look the same with the same laptops, shoes, uniforms etc etc and 4. They are rich snobs who run the place and have no knowledge of computers and firmly believe that since macs look better and more expensive and are easier for idiots to use, that they are the superior system despite running on the same exact hardware as PCs and being able to do the same things with a, generally, much lower price tag for the PC. Unless you are doing a lot of video and music editing and rendering as a student, or as your profession there is no need for a mac, and most people would actually benefit and enjoy a PC more from being able to play games and do other stuff in their spare time. I just don't get why people are so obsessed with macs and think they are better.

What a pathetic choice of hardware for IT lessons. I'm completely speechless. What difference does it make if all laptops nowadays are pretty much "IBM-Compatible PC's"? It's the exact same hardware with different stickers and price tag.

If they will try to expel you, just sue them. OSX is OSX, if you really HAVE to use it, the hardware it runs on is irrelevant.

ALTERNATIVELY go a step further. Buy the cheapest Mac you can get online. Not a macbook. A Mac computer, for example a G3. Then, get a trolley, put the tower on it, along with a colourful Mac monitor and push it into the school, claiming that's your mac. Jack in and have fun TROLLing.

loads of other schools i've visited and seen have Macs .
though currently , in my school they have Macs for their comm tech .

i was just about to suggest dual booting windows but Raika just said it's a pain .

i know it's a pain , i honestly don't know why they prefer Macs for the Comm Tech class .

1. My school is a well known "gifted" school that runs from K-12 (although I'm not going to name it for privacy reasons. It has AP courses too). I also have tons of friends here.
2. I'm not quite sure if Apple's sponsoring us, but I do know there's a lot of sponsors of my school (there's a huge plaque on the wall of my school listing our sponsors, e.g. Air Canada).
3. There are quite a lot of hipsters at my school, so a lot of these hipsters have Macs already.
4. For those saying to buy a shitty old Mac, sure, I could do that. The requirement is at least a PowerBook G4 with MS Office installed (weird combination, but we have been using XP PCs for the longest time, so I guess this is for the transition or something)
5. The requirement is part of some new "technology immersion" program my school is starting. Why they didn't allow Windows PCs though is beyond me.
6. It's a charter school.
