I got a new hardisk "WD 2TB Elements". And I made two partitions:

-Partition F: FAT32, 32k, primary.
-Partition G: NTFS, primary.

But I can not mark my FAT32 partition as active to use it on my wii, any idea why this could happen?

Thanks,

Edit: Windows 7 partition manager show the option as greayed, same for Windows 10, same for Easeus... I don´t really know what is the preoblem.

Why would you need to set an active partition ? there's no BIOS on Wii.

"Active" flag is a way computers use to know which partition you want to boot your OS.
It has zero effect on Wii.

Well, that's not normal you can't do it at all, but if it's only for the Wii, don't worry.

After seeing these sorts of posts for the 5,000th time, I've been considering submitting a patch for Nintendont that causes it to only look at active partitions. It seems everyone wants this anti-feature so badly, so might as well implement it. :V

Also, the problem is most likely that the disk is partitioned using GPT. GPT doesn't have a concept of an "active" partition.

So there is not need for marking partitions as Active?

I have read this all around the Wii scene several times, I don´t know exactly which places, but several I guess, from Wiiflow pluggins (Nintendon't also) to Emunand things I would say.

If there is not need for marking it as active, much more easy, thanks both a lot.

The active partition flag is used by the MBR bootloader on IBM PCs (and compatible systems) to determine which partition to boot on startup.

That's it.

Anyone who claims that it's needed for anything on Wii is either lying, incompetent, or intentionally added a check for the active bit for no good reason. (Or added a check because they're tired of people constantly repeating this.)

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.

Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
