I agree. The back lit SP screen shows richer colours and a nicer contrast than the GBM. However, I also agree that the GBM wins on its size. It really is portable like no other handheld. :) Sexy wee beasty that it is!

I really, really hope that K-Team work on a GBM clone once they're done with the SP clone (K-1). That would be pretty cool...

I can't decide on whether I should get an SP AGS 101, or a GBA Micro. I'm worried that if I get a Micro, then I'll think the screen is too small.

I have an SP AGS-001, but after playing DS Lite I can't stand the SP-001's screen anymore. And I can't stand playing GBA games on a DS Lite because the black border annoys the crap out of me.

Do some of you guys think the Micro's screen is too small? And is the Micro more comfortable to hold than the SP? Which one do you recommend?

I believe there is some DS homebrew that allows assigning a border of your choice instead of the black one, would that help? :)

I already knew that, I've been using it actually (one that mimics the physical black part of the GBA's screen cover), and it still bugs the crap out of me. I like it when games take up the whole screen resolution, for the same reason why I prefer playing GBC games on an actual GBC rather than a GBA.

But back on topic, should I get GBA SP-101, or a GBMicro?

Depends on whether you want it to be a decorative thing or an actual console. I'd get the Micro because it's mega-awesome, but I don't think it's practical.

I'd go for Micro.....I got myself another one (as I just couldn't force myself to play 25th annivesrsary Famicom edition, it's just too pretty) and it goes with me EVERYWHERE, I use it as my main playing console for last couple of months, kinda neglected NDS, but will get back to it as well :D

And Micro's screen isn't to small at all, it has amazin picture, really, you can't see pixels at all, and I was completely blown off when I first got it! I'd sugest you go with Micro!

When I first got my GBM I felt the screen was a little too small but after playing for a little while (hours) I was totally accustomed to it and now going back to anything bigger actually disappoints in terms of the picture sharpness goes... The DS is nice but the screen is a little blurry and the AGS-101 feels a little 'pixelly' for me now.

The Gameboy is my platform of choice and I've played many games on many variants. I can wholeheartedly recommend the GBM.

If you have the money I would recommend the following:

GBM
EZ Flash IV
GC/Gameboy Player
Hori Game Pad

It's what I use as my primary setup. I can play my games on the go or when my girlfriend is watching telly but when I want the bigger screen and lovely stereo I can just play the same cart on the TV. Perfect! :)

There's one a lot cheaper than that -- albeit not brand new, but still quite good -- in Akihabara at Retro Game Camp.

Mother fans are a bit crazy though... :P

I wish Nintendo had released face plates over here. I really wanted the Hanafuda style one shown in early promo shots. If i can find a picture I'll post it here. :)

A picture showing my love for the Game Boy Micros. I use the one with the wavy blue cover as my everyday handheld.

Added another Micro to the collection.

God damn, the green Micro looks nice. I wish I could get one, but it's hard, I don't think the colour was sold here in the States. ;O;
Yeah, the picture does not do it justice. They only sold these in Europe, it says assembled in Germany on the box, and came with a euro style power adapter.
Here's a picture of the hot pink one I purchased from the same person:

Ok, I remember seeing a few units of Famicom version at a shop. After reading this thread today, I went there. It's still available for $65... brand new, mint box, mint condition, just the seal is open.

I don't require it but seeing all the craze, I am thinking of keeping it as a collectible (lol that's probably what it's meant for, I also like its Game & watch kind of look)

They have 4-5 units, so yeah for a second opinion, should I buy it?

The collector in me would buy two of them. I would list one of them on ebay, sell it for a enough profit to cover the purchase of the other. I have built up my collection by doing this.

I went there again lol, gave them $15 to hold one for me ( I know they won't sell so quickly but still better safe than sorry). I will pick it up next week and if I have more money then, I will pick up two. Thanks for the tip! :)

Do you think batteries get spoiled for not charging them for such a long time?

Edit: What kind of condition should I store them? I was thinking of wrapping the box with a transparent food film.

The lithium batteries should be charged at least twice a year. Leaving them uncharged over long periods of time degrades the battery life. I have not heard of them leaking in storage yet though. I put my boxed systems in ziploc bags, been doing this for ten years with no ill effects.

Thanks, that was really helpful about the batteries...

I know a place from where I could score a few ziploc bags. :)
