What kind of OS is on the N3DS. Is it unix based like the playstation. I was just talking with my classmates the other day about emualtors and someone said they are based on current operating systems, but doesn't Nintendo make their own OS from scratch? That being said, I know this is off-topic to some of you, but its not really off topic in my mind.

Afaik Nintendo has always built their own OS from the ground up. Your friend was probably referring to the Xbox One and PS4, which use x86 architecture instead of the PowerPC architecture that video games have traditionally worked with for the last few generations. No idea what xbox one's os is since I do not own one (though it's a save bet that it is a variant of either Windows 8 or Windows 10). Afaik the PS4 (like the PS3 before it) uses a HEAVILY modified version of a linux build.

The WUD is encrypted, so you will need a key (it's like a password) to decrypt and gain access to the files in the WUD file.

There are two different types of keys for each game. NUS keys (eShop content, I think) and the regular title keys (disc dumps).

Not even needed, the places where you download the games, they usually give the key for it.
