Am I the only one who's starting to doubt now? I haven't touched my WiiU for a long time (I checked yesterday and I'm still on firmware 3.0.0E :)). Now I'm following the recent activities and I have two options. Buy a game with firmware 5.3.2 on the disk, wait for Hykem to release his exploit and then update to 5.5.1? But what if Nintendo brings out 5.5.2 which patches yellows8's exploit before the release of Hykem's exploit? Another option is update to 5.5.1 now and wait (maybe even five weeks :O).

I was glad that Hykem was taking his time to do a proper release but now with this information the time starts to tick since yellows8 exploit is publically avaiable, so also patchable by Nintendo. I hope Hykem realises this and releases his exploit soon.

I too have a console with 3.0 on it, I have a splatoon disc on the way which will update to 5.3.2, but I am not sure if I should use it or stick with 3.0...

TubeHax blocks Nintendo update and so does OpenDNS and I wanted to know if I should keep using OpenDNS

It's pretty simple, choose according to what your situation fits:
  • you got a static IP and are confident you set up everthing properly without room to blame someone if it fails
or
  • you started to doubt yourself and are willing to switch to tubehax, hoping no one shaves smea's super hairy legs as torture method to get his private exploits, resulting in his outraged takedown of the dns server and your updated console
The choice should be obvious.

Why do you guys need to be online anyway?

Just set up a private server in your network, even a phone can do it, and deny internet access to your console (or fake DNS)...

Or, you know, just use the TubeHax DNS server so you can still play with friends, use Netflix, use the E-Shop, etc...

I havent been following the wii u exploit but seems like its starting to get better. Just found out WiiU is on 5.5.1

Is there a tutorial on these dns blocks to prevent future updated?

Since when does tubehax allow access to the e-shop? AFAIK it doesn't.
AFAIK it does. You just need to use NNU to temporarily get around the console version check. I'm on 5.4, spoofed to 5.5.1, with TubeHax DNS, and I've downloaded several titles from the E-Shop. Even redownloaded the E-Shop version of Splatoon my console came with.

At first post,
see Phase 1:Setting up TubeHax DNS (Thanks Smea!)

What about those who at 5.5.0?

I do not understand why people can accidently let there wii u update . there a option in setings to check if you want updates to download while in standbye ...just uncheck the box...job done no need to use someones server ..or even better dont use it at all online that smea guy is so far stuck up his own ass the methan keeps his head in the clouds

Update still downloaded without asking.
Only TubeHax DNS block update.

Yeah no, I NEVER enable automatic downloads on my consoles and mine updated from 5.4 to 5.5 on me.

Ninty are giving peeps on here a false sense of security by making people think 5.5.1 is safe. If 3ds history is anything to go by, 5.5.1 isnt safe at all. Before long 5.5.1 users will have a friendly nag warning telling them to update to use browser #justsayin

I had tubehax setup and my console tried to update, I went into settings and it had changed the dns to auto and not manual. I host my shit locally now. Luckily I caught it and cancelled the update so I do believe you.
