My wiiU wont allow me to do a software upgrade (Splatoon 2.5.0) only without updating the system first to 5.5.1... this is sad because I really love playing Splatoon but I am also waiting for the 5.5.0 exploit... We really live in a harsh world.

@Bkool999 , @Insidious611

Are either of you using the tubehax dns in your router, or using any additional blocking methods like blacklisting urls?
Nope. I only have it set up on my console. Also, not sure why you tagged me in the reinand thread. I don't even own a New3ds, lol.

EDIT: I do remember seeing a thread about url's to block though. But I don't think I went through with doing that. Two other people in my house have a Wii U, and if I blocked anything like that outside my console, they would have complained about that a long time ago. (They don't care about homebrew)

Lol Chrome decided I must have wanted to post in that thread so it tabbed me over when I was trying to type and I didn't even realize it.

And that is weird, because I have a single internet connection set up with a manual dns (the tubehax one) and i can access the urls that are supposed to be blocked just fine.

Well I'm not sure if it's relevant or not, but I also have my console set to auto-obtain it's IP address.

Same here. The only manually set item is the DNS and the first entry is 107.211.140.65 and the second is zeroed out. To test I tried to access the content download page that is used by CakesFW to download the firmware.bin file they use. It loads fine, then spits an error about "Unable to load file." because it has no idea what to do with a file named "00000050" with no extension.

Just to double check I manually set the same dns on my laptop and I can still download the file. It drops said 00000050 file into my downloads folder. No block at all.

Tried setting the dns at the router and it still allows me to access the file. Interesting to note that a nslookup command ran on http://nus.cdn.c.shop.nintendowifi.net/ from a command prompt nets a 404 error, but I can access the webpage just fine.

I use 198.091.088.237 as secondary. It blocks some other stuff in case tubehax fails and ofcourse url blocking through modem.
Url blocking through the modem is not an option for me because it blocks access to EVERYTHING nintendo on the network. Means no eshop on the 3ds as well, which is not acceptable for me.

Whenever i use the eshop on my 3ds i just turn off url blocking and afterwards turn it back on. It's as simple as that. Better be safe then sorry and complain afterwards.

And during that period where the blocking is off, your Wii U could potentially update. So why bother with it at all then. Besides most routers interrupt their connection when updating settings (they soft reboot most of the time) which isnt an option since I am not the only one using the internet.

Your wii u can't update with standby function turned off and your wii u turned off. Also URL blocking doesn't reboot a modem. Settings like changing the password, name, channel and such do.

What is confusing the fuck out of me is why on earth the dns is being ignored/bypassed. Its not the Wii U, because I just tried setting it in my laptop (and my router for good measure) and my laptop is able to connect to the urls with no problem, yet if I try a manual nslookup it fails.

Sorry being off-topic but what has the e-shop (something important than demos?) and all people want access to it (with danger to update)?

Just tried it with a different network (turned on the hotspot on my phone) and it can STILL access the urls. This makes no fucking sense.

Its more that some people have other nintendo devices that they do access the eshop on to download things (games, demos, etc) so blocking urls across the board in the router isnt always an option.

If your throat closes, putting oxygen in your mouth will not solve anything - as you will be introducing oxygen prior to the area of obstruction
