I was playing mario kart 7 and decided to go online. I saw people spawning in items and stuff. I remember doing that on the wii. I decided to look into it and how to do that but I can't seem to figure it out. How do I do this?

So I can't use these codes? I read something about NTR debugger or NTR client, but that was a while ago. That doesn't work anymore?

You can convert it to an ntr plugin (iirc) but it is much easier to use a already made plugin. (like the one I linked)

When trying to start a game when connected with debugger it crashes my o3ds. I assume it doesn't work on o3ds.

NTR won't work with extended memory games (those that requires to restart the 3DS when closing the game, like Sun/Moon) on O3DS

Well I wasn't plannig to since that ruins it. Just want to troll my friends.

You need custom firmware (Luma's best)
and need a .cia file installation (I recommend FBI) (https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-fbi-open-source-cia-installer.386433/)
and need a way to edit your 3ds SD card
oh and NTR cfw (https://github.com/44670/BootNTR/releases

If you have got all of that then download NTR CFW (Latest one)
and move the .cia to your sd card (anywhere)
then boot into your 3ds (with emunand or sysnand)
go to FBI and install ntr cfw
Then take out your SD card and put in back into your PC!
then make a folder on the root called "plugin"
and go to http://3ds.titlekeys.com and type mario kart 7 and pick your region and make a folder with the name of the title key (Example:0400000800 (<--Not a real title key)
then download a plugin (I recommend flares plugin) ( https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-mario-kart-7-online-ntr-plugin.460631/)
and put that in your title key folder
then eject your Sd card and put it back into your 3ds!
Then run NTR CFW and start Mario kart 7 and click select for your menu (If your game came preinstalled with the version 1.1 use rev1 codes if it didan't use rev0!)

Then boom it's done!

No need to explain that all. Already got that to work. Sadly some cheats aren't in .plg format and I would like to use them. I wanted to use NTR debugger + client but it crashes my games. Do I connect to my nintendo after opening the game or before?

You need CFW to run Gateway on 11.3
