I just tried a different ofw and same result, that makes 3 different 6.35 ofw all from different source.

is the downgrader correct when it says my psp is a o4g?
If it's a 4g then I think you have to downgrade to 6.20 --could be wrong though. Wouldn't hurt to try it. Then upgrade to 6.35.

That's what I was thinking, but I don't want to risk bricking my psp if it's not 4g.

is the downgrader accurate when it say's my psp is 4g??
I would rather have the permanent pro-b5

ran into a problem
here's what I did

0. I was on 6.38
1. run downgrader
2. got to where it says to update to 6.20(wrong ofw??), that was a problem because I wanted 6.35 so I cancel.
3. went and got ofw 6.35
4. ran downgrader, here's the problem, it says something about mismatch md5 or something like that. than it reset to menu. Can't get past this point.

next, I deleted everything to start over, updated to 6.39
grabed downgrader 3.1 and ofw 6.35...got the same result.

any way to fix my mistake?
A mismatched MD5 sum could mean you don't have the right file or that it is corrupted. Maybe try downloading the ofw from a different source?

which version of the downgrader do you have? Seems like version 3 had a bug on downgrading from 6.38. The issue has been solved in version 3.1.

QUOTE
v2: 09g/07g support added.
v3: added support for 6.39, added model printer
v3.1: Fixed idiot bug for 6.38 I created when adding 6.39
Source: http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=6403

EDIT: nvr mind.
If the downgrader tells you it's 04g, you should be able to downgrade to 6.20.

well, I put in ofw 6.20 and it works, no more mismatch md5 error
but I'm still kinda scared to complete the downgrade, only because I'm not 100% sure mine is a 04g.

I don't really understand why it wouldn't let me downgrade to 6.35

Because that's simply how the downgrader is programmed. It is assumed that people would normally want to downgrade to 6.20 because of the choices of permanent CFW available. Adding the downgrade to 6.35 option ONLY for 07g and 09g PSP-3000 models gives those people at least a chance to use light custom firmwares. Why would you want to be on 6.35 instead of 6.20, when 6.20's CFW options are much superior anyway? But like someone else said, if you absolutely have to have 6.35, simply downgrade to OFW 6.20 first, then run an update to OFW 6.35.

if you've read my post, I said I prefer a permanent cfw, so yeah I rather have 6.20, but I bought a used black friday bundle that was already on 6.38 and I wasn't sure what module I have. my psp might be a 07g or 09g so I don't want to go straight to 6.20 and possibly brick my psp

Indeed! Such tools usually work in a specific manner. When in doubt just follow the instructions provided by its maker, and it will work.

There's always the usual risk associated with downgrading, of course, but it is unlikely for the tool to detect the wrong motherboard. If it says it's a 04g it probably really is one, and so you shouldn't worry about that.

The downgrader on filetrip is the 3.1 version, I never uploaded the bugged 3.0.

6.20 and 6.35 PRO-B5 have the same features as far as hacking goes, and the 6.20 is temporary by default (you don't need to make it permanent), so it is likely the downgrader assumed you were going for 6.20.

If it detected it as a 04g then it's fine.

thanks for everyone's help,
but I got my answer from some1

If your using anything non 07g/09g, you need to have 6.20 update, 6.35 update won't work.
QUOTEOnly time it will accept 6.35 is IF and ONLY if you have an 07g/09g.
this is great news for me, I can go down to 6.20
is pro-b5 the best cfw?? best game compatibility??
NVM, I think I found my answer

@Rydian
I don't know if you want to add that little bit of info, but it can be helpful.

EDIT:
I also found out what module I have by using Module checker 1.0
it works on any ofw, great way to check what module you have.

I was told there was a newer version of this but it's not signed

I think it's a good little app to add to filetrip and your PSP guides

I was on 6.39 when I used it. got it from wololo.net.
I read all 35 pages of that thread.

so for example if i downgrade to 6.35 i can instal a 6.35 CFW?

Yes, that is true. Using the guide on the first page you'll be able to install 6.35 PRO-B5 after you downgrade your PSP to 6.35. That is the the whole point of downgrading to 6.35, actually.

First of all, awesome guide, it's so easy to follow.

I have no complaints just that on a PSP brite g3, I had to upgrade from 6.37 to 6.38 to use the downgrader.

Thought you should know.

I installed PRO-B5 not that long ago, with no problems, and was wondering how I would go about installing PRO-B6. Do, I just have to uninstall PRO-B5 and then install PRO-B6? Also, I have a PSPgo if that matters.

Run the perma b5 patch again, it'll give you the option to uninstall -- do it.
Then install and run the b6 'update' lcfw first, then run the b6 perma patch. Done.

Alright, thank you. Gonna do that right now.

EDIT: Worked perfectly.
