Apple How to perform an iPhone 3G restore?

hi,
I have an iPhone 3G, **Latest Firmware**.
I have saved my SHSH's, reinstalled itunes and the likes. But I have not been able to downgrade or restore.
I have tried restoring normally, through recovery mode and also DFU mode. I'm no stranger to nay of this, but this has stumped me. Anyone have any further suggestions?

Have you tried, while holding the lock button and the home button for 5 secs connecting to Itunes. If not, try it

You can only restore to the firmware that you saved your SHSH blobs. So if you save them for 4.1, you will be able to downgrade to that firmware, but not anything before it. And to downgrade, you need something called TinyUmbrella.

Are you trying to restore to a firmware that you don't have SHSH to?

if u saved the shsh blobs though cydia "aka make my ife easier" add Saurik's server onto the hosts file.

You must setup TinyUmbrella and change the host files and then run the "TSS server"

Nah it's not that kind of problem.
In iTunes, after it's extracted the software, then goes into the "preparing iPhone for restore" stage nothing happens at all. And eventually I willget Ann error. I can't even restore back to the latest firmware. It has nothing to do with TineUmbrella (I know hoeto use it, and have been using it for a while.)

oh ok try searching for felixbruns iPhone firmware
then on the iPhone firmware section select the desired fw and download
now try restoring again

i had not saved anything for my ipod touch 2g mc model and was told tht it is impossible to restore but when i actually did restore it through itunes from 4.0.2 to 4.0, it worked perfectly and i have a jailbroken ipod now
