For some time I have been playing Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training. I liked the concept that this game could be played by a lot of elderly people, but unfortunately most of them don't speak English in my country. How hard would it be to translate most of the game to Russian? There isn't that much text to be translated anyway.

Depends on the game, but generally DS games are pretty difficult to make a translation for.

Most if not all DS games will require assembly patches for the executable, not to mention adding an entirely different font. And that's after figuring out if and/or how the game data is set up.

I say this, but some games do use UTF-8 / UTF-16 and already have the basic English font - although that won't be the case here, since you want to make a Russian translation...

Where can I learn about this kind of stuff?
Most of it comes from experience.

You can also look at a few tutorials and other translation projects as a basic guideline. They obviously won't work exactly for the game you're working on, but it'll give you some insight on how everything works.
