Apple how to jailbreak ipod touch 3g 4.2.1

so my friend has a ipod touch 3g 4.2.1 the most current firmware. 8 gigibytes. i want to jailbreak it. is there a way to do it untetherd. i only want untethered. also its okey if i downgrade it. but i need pecific steps and links. thanks okey now guess its a 2g mc model 8 gigibytes

there is no such thing as a ipod touch 3g 8gb it would be a 2g MC model if I am correct
but you can see if your friend has a MB model you can jailbreak it with redsn0w 0.9.6rc8
mc models are not supported

That model isn't supported, not even tethered. The new version of Greenpois0n, which should be released in a few days, will probably support it.

You're correct, however, if you have the SSH blobs from your previous firmware you should be able to do an untethered jailbreak (correct?)

this will be the first time jailbreaking it. but could i down grade it to a lower 4g firmware with out losing all of its data. and jailbreak it

@fudgenuts64: If you have 4.2b3 SHSH blobs, the 4.2b3 ispw and a mac, yes. Otherwise, you can use other blobs (say, for 4.1) to downgrade and jailbreak.

for the older models

its hard to believe but apple is still signing blobs for 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2.1 for the 2g models
so i suggest using tinyumbrella to backup your blobs

I have an untethered 2G MC model sitting right next to me. 3.1.3.

Tethered with Redsn0w. On 4.2.1. On every device except the older ones (mb model, iPhone 3g, etc). Every other firmware on all models is untethered. Do your research or at least read the jailbreak guide.
