I just banned my wii's mac address from my router. Then whenever I want to play online I just unban it and restart the access point. Takes 2 seconds. Then I ban it again.

Yeah, what Alexrose said..

You do know they could still hit update even with wiiconnect24 off right? wiiconnect24 has absolutely nothing to do with updating. There is no auto update code... if your wii has access to the internet, they can click the "update system" whenever they choose and it'll update.

I think I will just keep the password on the Wii.

Telling a kid not to do something is like putting a case of beer in front of an alcoholic and telling them not to drink it.

Thanks for the suggestions anyways.

What about updating from disks? Wiiconnect24 is only 1 way the Wii updates.

That was disabled in preloader

i cant understand your problem.
I dont have my Wii atm.
BUT: If they update it now, they just can get 4.0 on it. With Bannerbomb and what will come you can change that if needed.
By the time 4.1 is releases hopefully BootMi is released, too. So you wont have a problem there either.

Keep in mind that WiiConnect24 does not auto-update your console or anything installed on it, but on the other hand it is an integral part of some games and channels that won't work anymore when WiiConnect24 is disabled. I suggest you keep WiiConnect24 enabled (not in standby connection mode though, because that's likely to cause GPU damage in the long run), but also keep the password. Because of the password, your kids won't be able to update, yet retain all of WiiConnect24's functionality.
