1. 117 days
2. 19 million years

Lol this is for computers, not humans. My first pass is way more secure than the other.

I cracked it lol

GBATemp pass: About 540 thousand years
Site Pass: About 19 million years
Truecrypt Pass: About 119 octillion years, because that's where I keep my porn, and holy shit I do NOT want anybody seeing the stuff I paw off to.

If you put in numbers, the password will be cracked much more easily.

Because there are only 10 numbers (0->9), whereas there are 26 letters and loads more special symbols.
No, because any "digit" could be a number or letter or special character...

Let's say there's 100 possible characters that can be used in a password (number pulled out of my ass), which includes upper-case, lower, numbers, and symbols.

If it's 1 character long, there's 100 possibilities.
If it's 2 characters long, there's 10,000 possibilities.
If it's 3 characters long, there's 1,000,000 possibilities.
If it's 4 characters long, there's 100,000,000 possibilities.
If it's 5 characters long, there's 10,000,000,000 possibilities.
If it's 6 characters long, there's 1,000,000,000,000 possibilities.

This is because each character you add will multiply the previous value by the number of possible characters in the set!

why don't we all post our passwords and email addresses and we can compare security

I bet he harvests passwords with this site and then uses them for data harvesting.

Okay, how much are you betting?

'Cause with tools like firebug and such, it's easy to see if the javascript would be calling any sort of server-side script.

They figure that people would think this, so:
http://howsecureismypassword.net/faq/#safe

This all seemed legit until I saw that it was all based on brute force attacks.....which means the results aren't even valid anymore. Why doesn't use rainbow tables?

Fair enough. But you can't help but be suspicious when somebody asks you to put in your password on some random site.

Because a rainbow table is just as likely to get a password of "a" as it is a password of "holyshitwtfomgbbqpasswordnevercrackedneverhahahahaha" in the same amount of time.

Again, good point.
But still, this site seems more like something for fun than as a useful little tool, considering brute force attacks are outdated compared to modern cracking methods (like, again, rainbow tables). It's certainly fun to see what combinations give you what times, but I'm a little worried that some people might use this tool with a weak password, go "oh it'll take 5 years to crack my password" and not care.
I could set up Ophcrack on my USB drive, go to a public place full of laptop users and wait for that one guy to leave his computer behind for ten minutes.

my password for GBAtemp would take 30 seconds to crack lol, my hotmail password is one of the most common ones (top 500)

My old password which I used all the time would take about 5 hours to crack.

And if I take the last letter off my GBAtemp pass it would take about half a second to crack lol (cbf listing all the numbers LOL)

My GBAtemp password would take about 302 years to crack.

Capitalizing every second letter:
It would take
About a million years
for a desktop PC to crack your password

hmm the password i use for most site+computer+well everything would take about 3,4 novemdecillion years... LoL:S i think i'm safe for now

*joke* real one:

still would take some time to crack it
