I picked other because I have 2 desktops and a laptop and my son also has a pc. I use one of my pcs for a lot of my video\picture work and web. The other I just mainly use to play online games and record my television shows.

I've got my laptop. This is my computer for everything and tbh its mainly used like a desktop. It sits on my desk with speakers plugged in and everything. Its a lot easier to take back and forth to Uni and such though.
As for my entire family my little sister has a netbook and my parents have a laptop. As well as this there are 2 desktops sitting around not plugged into anything. 1 is my old machine, the other is my parent's old machine.

The pile of semi working ones (usually p4 and maybe slightly earlier gear I keep around) sits at 5 right now. I usually use them to play with new (or new to me) linux distros on actual hardware (usually to do silly things like build routers and NAS out of them) or to give to people that need an internet and word processing machine for a couple of weeks as they get together funds to do a proper build with or wait for parts to ship. It has probably been a month at least since any have been powered though.

I do have a version of linux on my main hacked xbox but it is pretty much XBMC only these days.

The ones I grab wires from inside of and use as alarm clock stands/tool holders doubles the original number. Assuming my recent projects to build a lot of bench power supplies has not left me without enough I probably could build a couple out of them but unless I need an old cyrix machine to run some piece of industrial hardware again I doubt I will put anything together.

If I bothered to put together/fix the stuff from my junk/broken and parts drawers (four hours soldering and a serious reduction in my electrical parts bins is not really worth it) I would run out of ram and hard drives very quickly but I could probably get another couple out of it.

Laptops.... several in various states of disrepair although just the one hard drive less thing I have as security laptop.

If we are talking ones that I take effort to maintain in working order I probably have to add in any virtual machines I have of which there are about ten in regular use (usually ones geared to mirror setups of various clients although I have been thankfully been spared having to check each and every update and driver update routine but I do have several I actually use) and I guess with a few clicks I have a terminal server as well but I am not going there.

Thus far pogoplugs and beagleboards have proven too expensive to be the in fun stuff money budget but I imagine if something like the raspberry pi achieves arduino levels of availability at that kind of price well I might have to not use the 192 private IP range.

In my defence I do not have a phone, tablet, mobile computer device (PSP and DS do not count as much as I like to pretend otherwise) or working laptop beyond security laptop which has no battery and the second most temperamental charger socket I have ever seen and most of the piles get raided for parts every month or so and get cycled out and replaced not long after that. I do tend to get given older machines though and as I can just stick a low requirement version of linux or BSD on there I will tend to say yes please.

1 desktop. I can see 1 desktop and a laptop but anything other than that is pretty pointless. Server boxes aside.

My family as a whole has 3 desktops and 2 laptops.

One crap notebook only, the only thing I can play here is http://gene-rally.com/

I'm accepting suggestions on what new notebook to buy (ultrabook, MacBook, dell notebook, olivetti typewriter, etc)
