Hacking How does CycloDS stack up to R4?

Alright, my decision has been made. I'm going with the Supercard One. I don't care that it's a lot less user friendly. In the past, I've found that the less user friendly something is, the more options it offers to users willing to sit and figure it out.

Also, the fact that it's cheaper doesn't hurt.

Be sure to research which microSD's work best with it. I hear the SCDS1 can be a bit finicky about the microSD used in it.

I hear it works fine with Kingston or Toshiba microSDs made in Japan.

Or you could just get a decent card like CycloDS in the first place and not need to worry about the possibility of waiting even longer due to returning a faulty piece of hardware...

I have a SCDS1, which I have got back in March. I never had any PSRAM errors, or anything of the sort, but these hardware problems seem to pop up every once in a while for all the carts. My advice is that if you don't want it to be faulty, just wait a little bit, until the problem fixes itself. If not, you can still send it to the Supercard team, since the people at the SCDS1 forum have told me that all the Supercard products come with a 1 year warrenty.

There really isn't much for me to say that hasn't been covered, other then the fact that I like it a lot. There's a few learning curves here and there, but it's not really hard. It just takes a few couple of seconds, and that's it.

If you can pay the extra to get the CycloDS, then go for it. Although the features of the SCDS1 are nice, I just hate how the Supercard team never fixes the features they have, and the GUI. I'm not gonna get into that, because it has been covered numerous times before. If you can live with it, like me, then just choose the SCDS1.

Though if you don't really need it's features, you can just get another card. Afterall, almost all the carts in the current times are better than then the R4. The Acekard 2 is only 13 dollars off of DX, and it always got positive reviews.

- DSTT / TTDS (Top Toy DS / NeoFlash)

I always feel that my R4 is going to just shit on me one day. Be it the stupid spring, games slightly slowing down and there being FMV stuttering, and other things.

I think I want to move onto something better.

CycloDS. Quality is top notch (it wasn't quite a few months ago) and compatibility is pretty much 100% (if newer games don't work they're usually fixed by the next update). That 100% doesn't include shovelware btw, so you nitpickers can shove off.

Yes but that includes paying extra money, and I don't have a lot of money. What I do have though is time and patience.

You can run 3 different GUIs on the Supercard though, and I read about how to speed up the default menu system so it can be as fast as the CycloDS's. Basically, the only thing holding me back from a Supercard right now is the fact that some people are saying that it has trouble with slowdown sometimes even with fast cards. On the other hand, PharaohsVisier told me that his AData card has had no problems, and I feel inclined to trust him.

Heard there is longer load times with the SC1- I'd just go with the Cyclo, Sell something to get the extra cash, Its worth it and as of now is the best

CycloDS doesn't let you make back up of SAVs as the R4 did. That's about the only thing I miss.

Those can apparently be significantly reduced through tweaking the .ini, and also, I don't think I'm going to mind a few seconds of extra load time.

Edit: I actually read about a ton of really awesome tricks you can do to speed up load times and other things here. Apparently loading a different GUI even decreases lag in problematic games.

CycloDS was destined to fail, and R4 would rein supreme.

But I've been enjoying it.
But I've only had a cycloDS.

Plays pretty much anything you throw at it, but what card nowadays doesn't?
But don't correct me if I'm wrong 'cause I know I am.

I don't get any slowdown in any of the games i play! I have an 8gig class 6 and all runs fine.

Do you know that the SCS1 actually has every feature the cyclods has ! off the top of my head:

1)Real time save
2)Real time game guide
3)Multi save
4)Slow motion (activated with cheats)
5)Real time cheats

Loads and loads of optional options , basically if your a noob or someone not very technically minded then you can simply just play games but if your into messing then its an excellent card.

Add to all that the supercard team have been on the ds scene from the beginning with there slot 2 cards which to this day still get support and updates , there was a problem with a batch of SCS1 but that was then and this is now.

I say get the SCs1 as iv never had any problems with it and neither has my sister in law or doughter who i bought for as well

That's usually a problem with the memory card, not the flashcart. A good reformat every few months usually fixes those up.

Agreed. I've never had any problems like that with my R4 + 2GB Sandisk MicroSD.

I just bought a CycloDS after owning an R4 for about a year. I bought the Cyclo because it seems to have better ROM support and a more active team behind the firmware.

I'd recommend NOT getting an R4 today, but even if you do you're still going to have a decent card that runs most homebrew and about 98% of all game ROMs released so far.

I own a Cyclo, and I would like to adress those features.

1) Sure, it has real time save, but it isn't perfect. For me, it crashes and freezes a lot whenever I save a game. I think this might be because of the stupid "press 41203840189374 buttons to bring up the in-game menu".

2) When I tried out the in-game text reader, I was really dissapointed. The text is in uber small font to the point where you have to put the DS up to your nose to read it. It's usually very messy and unorganized, and it doesn't support most symbols, which is annoying. If it was a little more polished, I'd use it much more frequently.

3) Not really. It allows you to redirect the saving to another folder... so it's not really multiple saves, it's more like placing your saves somewhere else. Any cart can do this. (Except for the fact that you'd have top move it to a different folder manually)

4)Alright, I'll give you slow motion.

5)Real time cheats... that's a vague description. It's more like "real-time turning on and off cheats", and it doesn't always work. It also doesn't work for every single cheat.

Still though, even with all the little things I mentioned above, this card is excellent and WELL worth the 50 bucks.
