How do you download and install software on a Linux operating system

Okay after a bit of experimenting I have figured out that if I run the command sudo apt-get install regardless of the program I am installing it says the error about Brave

In a case like this, the first thing to try is a Google search, you see.

And the first hit there is https://community.brave.com/t/malfo...-d-brave-browser-release-list-component/60210 . So try those instructions.

Or try these first, since they're more recent and are on the Brave github: https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/5703 .

If you find yourself saying, "This is terrible! Why should I have to type these weird commands just to install this program? Why would they release a download that doesn't work for me?" then you should just stop, now, go back to Windows and be happy.

Okay after some searching I have found the problem but I have no Idea how to fix it here is a screenshot of the issue

Okay I have found the problem it is these files

But they will not delete would you happen to know a way to delete these or override the thing that is preventing there deletion thanks

Yes, those are system files and you cannot delete them from the file browser. That is why you use commands starting with "sudo" from the terminal, like in those links.

sudo apt-get install and sudo apt install is the same. It's just an abbreviated version.

It basically means that something is wrong with /etc/apt/sources.list.d/brave-browser-release-.list. Try opening that file with a text editor, and see if you find anything weird. If you can't fix, it might be useful to post a screenshot here.

Thank you all for your replys I managed to find this folder and delete its contents so it seems to be fixed I will try to install a program and see what happens

Brave was a bit broken when I tried adding it to my Ubuntu the last time as well.
