Just bought a dual IPS N3DS XL and it came with an 8gb card and CFW. It's a japanese new 3ds and the guy changed it's region to US.

Just wondering how I go about changing the 8gb card to a 64gb one. Do I just copy all the files in the 8gb card and paste it in the 64gb?

Another question, how do I remove the guy's nintendo account and replace it with my own account?

Thanks!

Format the new card to fat32 with guiformat and to remove previous owners account factory reset

  1. Factory reset ("Format System Memory") → getting rid of the old profile
  2. For the new SD
    • Format to FAT32
    • Check with h2testw or F3

That should be all. NEVER uninstall CFW on region changed console. 100% full brick guaranteed.

Good luck and have fun!
So if I'm understanding this right:

1. Factory reset the 3DS with the 8gb card inserted
2. Format the 64gb card to FAT32 (I don't need to insert it first into the 3DS before performing steps 3 and 4)
3. Perform step 3
4. Perform step 4
5. Remove the old 8gb card and insert the new 64gb one

Also is there a chance to uninstall CFW while performing any of these steps? I'm kinda afraid of bricking it.

Correct. You can insert the new SD anytime (before and after factory reset).

This will not do anything bad – nothing to be scared about.

My statement was just a warning to not manually uninstall CFW (We have had a few cases of people region changing 2|3DS and uninstall CFW right after that). GodMode9 would show a red screen if doing anything that could lead to bricking.

Wouldn't factory resetting erase CFW though?

Also is it okay to format the 64gb with an Android phone via an app? I don't have access to a pc lol

Factory Reset throws away the user profile and changes the encryption key for the software on SD. That is all.

If your phone formats the SD to FAT32 it is okay. By default 64GB and larger come with exFAT which the 3DS does not support.
I don't know if something for checking the SD like h2testw / F3 exists for Android.
