Hacking how do cheat codes work?

I tried dumping a GBA ROM with its *.cht file enabled, but the manager just gave me an error and didn't transfer. Then, I tried transferring without cheats, and it successfully transferred as usual. When it appeared on the file listing, I right-clicked its name and selected "Write Cheat.txt," selecting the *.cht file once again (had to choose view all files). Didn't get any confirmation of "success" and codes weren't enabled in gameplay either.

Any suggestions/help?

Well make sure you enable the REAL TIME SAVE FUNTION
