Misc How are Friend codes generated?

I was just wondering, how are those codes generated?

They are generated from the game card and the DS.
So if you change game card, say you lost your copy of mario kart, it will change.
Also it will change if you get another DS, though you can copy across your ID, friends list and AP details to another DS.

So it depends on the console you use and the game? cuz a lot of us are using roms..

With roms it is still ok. Like he said, the game AND the DS. so if you put your flash card into another DS, it'll make a new friend code.

I wonder if they will make a Best Friend code =D Ones who stand above the rest.

i know when ever i use a different save file i get a new friend code hows this possible the hardware doesn't change?

The idea of a new friend code for each new save (or game card for that matter), is so that everyone who shares one DS, can play online on that DS at different times, without affecting each others friend list. What is really happening, is that the first time you connect with a given game card, the game is getting a new friend code from the Nintendo WFC server, and putting it into the game card.

The only thing that affects if the friend code will be the same or not on next connection, is the WFC ID stored in the current DS. If the WFC ID is the same, then the friend code for that game card will remain the same. This is why you can transfer your WFC ID info to another DS, then play your game card on that DS without affecting your friend code.

How do i learn my friend codes.... where does my games tell me?
