How About Them Kickstarters?

There's another thread here talking about preorders and how they suck.

What about Kickstarters? I recently backed "A Hat in Time" for $50, and am looking forward to the game. However, when I paid that money, I had never played a game from that publisher before (don't think they had any), and they hadn't even yet planned some of the levels.

Thoughts?

do you own an ouya? have you played an ouya? part of my highly doubts it and your going by the shitty dev kit reviews.

The OUYA did seem pretty cool.

Has anyone hacked it so you can just load Google TV onto it yet? That would make for one hell of a toy (and with, from what I've heard, a better interface than it has presently).

I don't believe in kickstarters, but I like to pre-order my games so I can let the devs know I'm interested in their games.

I trust them as far as I can throw them and since they aren't physical objects that I can throw, that pretty much sums it up there.

And I personally only pre-order games when I know will have the money for them by the time they are released.

It's a preorder way way in advance, and you have no guarantee the game won't suck balls, and little to no way of getting any money back if it does.

They aren't? C'mon...throwing discs actually made it to being an Olympic sport. Those things cannot be more throwable.

And don't get me started on the ouya. That little thing is practically BUILT to be thrown and kick(start)ed. :P

Ahem...joking aside...how many actual kickstarter projects outside of the ouya actually made somewhat of a name for themselves? Or actually got good reviews?

I've only ever backed one game on kickstarter. I get the finished product for $15 upfront? Sure, only because I've enjoyed the developers' previous work and I wanted to see them make a new game after 20 years since they split.

FTL, even though they stopped updating it, by itself, it's a success.

Cards Against Humanity definitely counts, though I don't understand why that was kickstarter in first place?

That's off top of head, I know there are others that have funded and released something, I can start a nice list of kickstarter that I know will release a good product, well have good faith in them. Stone Heart, Star Citizen, Double Fine Adventure, that game based on Planescape:Torment, Torment: Tides of Numenera I think? Deeper Magic, I can go on. There's a lot of failure, but also a lot of golden sucesses.

A friend has a Pebble, which is actually kinda cool. Would have gotten one myself too, but I've yet to get a new phone compatible with it. As for the Kickstarter itself, things like Ouya are cool, but people are still missing out on the console even though they pre-ordered. That kinda sucks very much as they already have the thing in retail. As I already have quite a huge backlog of games and I'm not really bathing in cash, I usually wait for the final product. If I wasn't a student, I'd be getting a few things via Kickstarter. Mainly games like the new Planetscape: Torment sequel.

Well, from what I've heard from my parents, he had a seizure last night, perhaps an epileptic episode, fucking died, had a near death experience, my dad called the paramedics, they showed up, took him to the hospital, and he woke up covered in tubes, and started complaining.
