Hacking HOTD: Overkill

Yeah right, I have been using them for a long time now and all 36 of my other backups work flawlessly. Benn down this road already, I know many people dislike them but they work fine for me.

See this is what confuses the hell out of me. Same System Menu, same media + speed, same loader, no patching. Even same ISO, yet one works, the other does not.

If you two are still around, I'd like some more information on what sorts of other homebrew/tweaks you might be running. There has to be some explanation as why it's only working for some.

For me its a weird issue.

My wii: 3.2u Cioscorp/preloader .28
Tv Input: Projector - runs both pal and ntsc
gamma auto boot 002 fix no force

Normal pal games run fine on this, i dont need to change the video mode, the projector automatically changes to the correct video format. When it comes to this game however, it changes the game, but the wii mote unsyncs, and the screen stays black. If i run the game in gamma without changing the video, the game still loads in pal and plays fine.

Downgraded my Wii to 3.2U today, so that I could install Starfall. Still no luck getting this game to run and now my configuration matches the Wii of a friend of mine and the game runs perfectly for him. What the heck!

Never fail, neverbad copy, never need to fuck about with book type, maximum speed, writing perfection!

Iv used over 400 disks for my wii gc collection and only ever had 1 bad burn caused by me running too many intense apps on my PC at once.

1 in 400 thats 99.75% awesome and only 0.25% fail rate.

HOTDK is fully awesome, best game iv never paid for on the wii since metroid prime corruption.

memorSUX is your problem

no "fezzes" for me at that point. Same release using Memorex DVD-R burnt at 16x, same as all my backups, and have never had a problem with them.

Burning at the lowest speed does not create a better burn. This was the case years ago when the first cd burners came out but is not an issue anymore, just burn at the speed your DVD's are rated for.

Solved this guys. You must make sure you have the latest version of the cIOS36 rev7 installed. Did that, as well as Waninkoko's updated cIOS37, and it loaded right up. You might have to delete IOS249 with anytitledeleter to get it to install correctly.

What I get for not updating sooner i suppose.

Now on the other hand, was it all worth this trouble? No. This game is horrible. They curse just for the sake of cursing, it tries so hard to copy Grindhouse (which is a copy of mid 70's movies but if you actually saw any of those movies, it's nothing like them), the graphics look like PS1 and there are so many freezes and errors in gameplay it's a joke.

If this sounds like fun to you, install cIOS37.

I agree that the cursing was a tad over done but i don't think the game was horrible at all. While it wasn't filled with fantastic dialog it certainly had its hilarious moments. As for the graphics.. lets not forget we're talking about a wii game. It did stutter around in parts but i haven't had it freeze up. My complaints would be more along the lines that the game was way too easy and way too short, with the guns being far too powerful and even easier to max out their stats. I guess if you're used to real first person shooter games this just doesnt live up in terms of gameplay. Still.. it was fun.

OMG LMAO. I had the exact problem. A reburn on a VERBATIM disc fixed all my problems.

Being a Wii game has nothing to do with the PS1 graphics. House of the Dead 2 and 3 look better than this garbage. The game skips frames often, it's riddled with bugs. It really plays like a beta. They rushed this garbage out.

If the cIOS37 helped you, you didn't have the rev7 cIOS before. Oh and the cIOS37 at IOS249 will cause some trouble with some apps from Waninkoko like Wad Manager.

I don't think it is THAT horrible. The frame skipping is due to a bad DVD/ burn. I burnt it twice (on a Verbatim DVD-R and on Sony DVD-R) because I give one to a friend, and surprisingly the Sony's one lags very rarely.

About the curse for the sake of cursing : that's the point ! It's a joke. As I'm not a native english speaker, I guess it doesn't hurt me as much as you, but It makes me laugh a lot.
Don't you remember movies like Die Hard, where the hero says "f***" every minutes ? In HoTDverkill, who can actually believe this story is serious ? Since the very beginning, it's a joke ("critics said this game is motherf***** good !").

Again, maybe I missed something : the "F" word is maybe too strong for you, but try and take it to the bright side : a parody !

I had rev7 before. Just telling you what worked. I'll give Wad Manager a try tomorrow and see if works.
