Hi everyone !

As some of you may know, quite some nice launchers exist (emulationstation, pegasus, launchbox etc), and they use scraper sources (like screenscraper, launchbox db etc). The thing is that they (almost all of the time) provide us with native quality content or 1080p for fanarts.

The thing is that screen resolutions evolve and nowadays, displaying 540p wii screenshots/gameplay for example doesn't look very nice on big 4k screens. Luckily, emulators often allow us to upscale the games and even sometimes load custom textures. Many upscaled gameplays are available on youtube and existing fanarts could be easily upscaled with AI programs.

So I was wondering if there was an existing source of organized game assets/media (like screenscraper etc) but in high resolution ?

If not, I would be happy to start such a database ! It would require quite some efforts but not all games can be uspcaled, and it is always possible to fallback to existing sources if no high definition media is available.

I would probably go the other way and border things, tile things (title screen, few different aspects of gameplay*), nearest neighbour upscale or the like.

*I did see Valve had some kind of automated game playing AI a while back for Steam screenshots, here I would suggest someone do a longplay and it grabs screenshots and select the best manually.

Anyway there is not a unified cheat database at this point and those all use at least broadly similar concepts to operate. High res texture replacement, upscaling and up res things... well those things alone are radically different and each have their own different takes within themselves (texture stuff being either within emulated/expanded hardware, possibly as determined by a later device with "native" support, or emulator/PC level wholesale alteration). This also says nothing about widescreen stuff as well.

I am not aware of anything in this regard, and most dat sets with boxart and title screen, and other such image libraries, I have ever seen either have it as a stated rule that it must be as it is in hardware or if someone comes up with a better one then that.

If your internet speeds are fast enough. Streaming 4k takes alot. I used to only have 20mb sec, and 4k struggled. Now I have 300mb sec and 4k plays fine.

I think Game streaming should work like this.... Local Hardware able the run the game fine, game engine and common assets stored locally, all FMV and music and textures could be streaming

They went all in on streaming, should have been more of a hybrid approach

Or free government supplied high speed internet be nice also. Like Obama care. Xdqwerty that's cool, its time consuming but rewarding once done or playable, to see what you've made from scratch. Animations take forever, but worth it.

    @BigOnYa,
and the visual aspect of the game is quite crude (the sprite that looks best is that of the protagonist just because he is a stickman with sunglasses)

There is a bullets behaviour you assign to your character, that makes the code easier, under "behaviours"
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
i meant that when the character is pointing to the right, the bullets spawn where they should, but when he is on the right, they move to the right but the spawn point is incorrect
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Itch.io has lots of free assets also. Under the bullets behavior tab, there is a "rotate bullets" option, can try that. Or in the code can try
    - fire bullet Player.X(PlayerDirection)

That's cool tho, I'm proud of you going back to it, not giving up. It is difficult at first to learn, but fun once you get the hang of it. I think I've watched every tutorial video there is, but I still struggle sometimes to get stuff to work right. But gotta keep trying dif things, and eventually you will get it right.
