Emulation Hi, I have a question about Pokemon Red save files on the Visual Boy Advance

So, I use the Visual Boy Advance M 2.0.1 to play Pokemon Red (U) 1.1 and I started using the ingame save button to save my game instead of using the emulator's save state/load state.

Now, I have a .sgm file, a .sav file, and a .gba file. The .gba and .sav have the same name as they should. The .sgm file has a '-01' added before the file extention and it's 44Kb. The .sav file is 128Kb.

I tried to load battery file and load the .sav file, with no change. I tried to load the .sgm file with no change. Loading the last saved state (which is the only saved state, that i just overwrote) loads the same thing, since my actual save is the .sav file. I don't know what to do here, and I lost a tone of progress.

What do you think I should do?

I FIXED it. Here is EXACTLY what I did:

- Make a folder where you put the .gba file and .sav file AND ONLY THOSE
- Go to Options > Directories > Emulator file > select that folder ^
- Close the emulator if it's open, and open the .gba file, IT WILL OPEN A FRESH GAME
- Go to File > Import > Battery file > open your .sav file
- Voila, you just got your progress back, NOW SAVE STATE
- S A V E S T A T E
- save state

Extra information:

If you ever have this problem again, you must remember to put the .sav file and .gba file in their own folder and select the folder for emulator files in directories in options. The reason for this is that it prioritizes the .sgm file over anything else, and if it's not there, it will load a fresh game as if you just started it for the first time.

Also, apparently .sav files only work when loaded in an empty game? Weird.
