Is it possible to Hex Edit a 3DS Save file?

I copy the .sav file from the correct game from the Nintendo 3DS Folder and throw it into my Computer Hex Edit Program and when I use 16 or 31 signed when I look for the, lets say, current money. Nothing shows up when I search for the exact value of the money. Searching is 100% working on other values so Hex Editor isn't the problem

saves from the nintendo 3ds folder are encrypted. you need a save manager like JKSV or svdt to extract then (assuimng you have homebrew access)
I see, I use JKSV, So I export the save and that will decrypt it? Get it from the Folder it exports to and it will work? Then I put the save back in the folder and use JKSV to import the save back in. Correct?

Some games such as Pokémon and Yokai Watch have encrypted save files, you have to decrypt them with proper tools.
Basically most "big licenses" games have encrypted save to prevent tampering with the data and cheating.

edit: By "encrypted" I meant "compressed", not the same but still.
