Hi

Today I got a DSTT from dealextreme and after reading the forum its probably fake

I loaded the 1.17 firmware on but I am having some problems

Every time I try to load anything it doesn't load

I have tried re downloading the firmware, trying the remove killer firmware, with no luck

After the DS has booted once and loads on to the DSTT menu, if it turn it off and back on I get a red memory card with a MENU?

So I check the files on the card and for some reason they are named to TTMEJU folder and TTMEJU.SYS

I'm not sure why they are changing names like that?

Even if i rename them and load it again, it wont load any roms or anything

If anyone has any ideas that would be great

Thanks

Reformat your SD card, then make sure you always use the safely remove hardware option. If you already do that, something else is going on, but not using safely remove would be one way to get corrupted files, so try and see if it helps.

Try these steps:[*]Use the Panasonic formatter to reformat your microSD card: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/d..._formatter.html[*]Grab the official 1.17 menu from here: (but do NOT install TTMENU.DAT from it as it contains the fake-killer code!!!): http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=4476[*]Copy the TTMENU folder (but not TTMENU.DAT) from the official firmware to your microSD card.[*]Grab this archive: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?download=4086[*]Copy all four files from the archive to your microSD card.[*]Make a folder named "games" on your microSD card. Copy 2 or 3 games (.nds files) to the new "games" folder.[*]Run "safely remove hardware", select your microSD reader in the list, and press STOP before removing your microSD card from your PC.[*]Insert your DSTT into the NDS. Insert your microSD card into the DSTT. Turn on the NDS.[*]Run the DsttFlashChecker program to see if you have a real or a fake DSTT. If you have a fake DSTT and suspect that it may have been destroyed by the official fake-killer firmware, run the DsttFlashWriter program to re-flash your DSTT.[*]You should be able to run your games now. You can delete DsttFlashChecker.nds, DsttFlashWriter.nds, and DSTTDUMP.BIN from your microSD card if you want.[*]Always keep the following in mind:
  • Always leave some free space on your microSD card for save files and system files.
  • Always put games into your "games" folder. Also, put homebrew into a folder. Leave as few files as possible on the root of your microSD card.
  • Always use "safely remove hardware" to remove your microSD card from your PC.
  • Use the Panasonic formatter if you ever have to reformat.
  • Make sure you don't use the official TTMENU.DAT (particularly if you have a fake) because it contains fake-killer code.
If that doesn't work, you probably have a hardware problem. You should return your flash cart where you got it from. There is no good way to fix a contact or other hardware problem.

I have tried what you have suggested with no luck

Its very strange

I put all the needed files on and it boots, i try to load anything it I get an error about the TTMENU.SYS

Then I turn it off and on again and I get the red card with a "MENU?" error

then i check the files on the card and they have been renamed to:

TTMEJU
TTMEJU.DAT
TTMEJU.SYS
DSTTBL~1.NDS
DSTTBL~2.NDS

Get a ttmenu.sys file to stop one being created on boot up, this should keep the mem card intact so you can run the flashtool.

Run the flash tool, flash then turn off the ds.

Then reformat the mem card and put a fresh safe firmware files on, hopefully the weird 5th character rename bug will be gone????

If I put the flash tool in a folder it doesn't rename it, so it looks like its only renaming things on the root

i still cant run it though cos it looks like it renames the files when it loads the menu, so therefore renaming the TTMENU.SYS, so cannot load the rom cos it cant find it

Thats very weird.

If you have another flashcart you can run the flash tool from that then swap in the dstt in when prompted by the flash programme, and then run the flash from that.

edit.. crazy idea here LOL

I noticed that it's naming every 5th character 4 letters backwards, so if you name the files with the 5th letter 4 in advance it should work at least once

so have one set correctly named for booting, and exact copy of the files and the folder ttmenu too with the 5th character 4 letters in advance

example..

ttmenu (folder)
ttmeru (folder)
ttmenu.dat
ttmeru.dat
dsttdump.bin
dstthump.bin (hopefully the flash programme will see this file)
flasher.nds (don't matter if this gets renamed)
ttmenu.sys
ttmeru.sys

I don't know mate it's all very weird, I wonder if this is ndstt.com's new bricker technique.

Possibly make sure you are using the latest flashtool (version5 i think) it supports more chipsets.

Yeh just checked I'm using the latest version

yeah I can't seem to get it to do anything

i made the files read only but i think it must write to the TTMENU.SYS on boot cos it wont load if its set to read only and it still manages to rename the other files if they are read only

Change your topic's title, it's not clear what your problem is before reading it

Little update

If I try to rename the files after they have been renamed I can, except the TTMEJU.SYS

I rename it to TTMENU.SYS but it says a file already exists, which I cannot see on there and I have show hidden files enabled

EDIT

If I drag a TTMENU.SYS I have on my PC on to the card, it then asks me to replace the one I cannot see, see I press yes and it say it's corrupted or unreadable, but now appears on the card.

EDIT

It doesn't always seem to that

Tried putting some random files on the root and it renames them too and again still the 5th letter

Have you tried a different microSD reader or microSD card? The readers that come with these flash carts are notoriously crappy. Also, make sure you use "safely remove hardware" before removing your microSD card from your PC. And make sure you don't put too many files on the root of your microSD card -- put the games in a "games" folder. And make sure you leave plenty of free space on the microSD card for it to create system files and save files.
