(and most active converters without a separate power input are in flagrant violation of the HDMI specs, by using more than the official maximum of 50 mA)

AFAICT, the HDMI spec sets a minimum of 5V, 50mA on pin 18. Where do you see the listing for the maximum amperage?

you need something like this: http://amzn.eu/9QFPB7z

I bought something similar as well, mostly because my previous HDMI -> VGA converters were incompatible with HDCP. Literally the only thing that I use that has HDCP is my PSTV. *shrug* I'm not sure if/when Windows incorporates HDCP, but that's something that Johnton should also be aware of. :/

You sayin' that the cable MIGHT work?
Oh wait... I still need one of those convertors.
Yes, I'm aware of those. They're just NOT common where I live, nor cheap.
They're around 80 dollars here.
On top of that, I would still need to buy an HDMI cable and an VGA cable.
I'll just stick with my laptop, and I will try to save money to get an HD monitor instead.
