Hacking Help with copying files from R4DS to computer!

Hey everyone! As titles says, I need help copying files from my KINGSTON micro sd card (R4DS) to my computer.

I receive the following message when I try to copy or cut files from my KINGSTON micro sd card via micro sd reader:

"Cannot copy : The parameter is incorrect."

Anyone got any idea about this?


EDIT: I can copy things from my computer to the sd card fine, the opposite however, doesn't work.

Sounds like corruption.

Running check disk might do something if you are lucky otherwise your probably going to have to reformat and start again.

Did a check disk with Tuneup Utilities, no errors found.

How do I reformat?

What are the benefits of formatting?

Do I need to delete everything off my card before I format?

You try renaming the file before copying?

e: formatting will erase everything on the card. If you do this you should format as FAT16/FAT, not FAT32.

yeah I tried that, apparently, I can't copy anything off my card to my pc anymore..

why not FAT32?

how about ntfs?

also, sometimes I get the error,

"Cannot blah blah blah: I/O Device Error."

Try a different card reader.

It's either corruption with your card or a problem somewhere between the card and your computer (dirty pins, messed up card reader).

You better format.
FAT32 and NTFS are for bigger volume sized like your hard drive, plus your R4 won't support them. There are speed and fragmenting issues too but that's a bit deeper.

Hmm, well I've tried 2 different card readers.

Still a negative.

Well I guess formatting is there way to go, gonna try it out now!

I'm guessing you've tried to use a different USB port (not the card reader) already?
Perhaps you can format using another device (phone, etc).

Yup tried a different port.

This dilemma is driving me crazy!!!!!!!

Still gettting the same error, also the occasional I/O device error.

dont u use a USB-HUB? hope not.

maybe scandisk it and check the first check box to correct stuff, maybe that works.

plus there are programs for sd cards, maybe those can help, others can help name them.

Tried a disk check, doesn't seem to work when I reboot.

make sure the file isn't read only, right click a file and go to properties, it shouldn't have read-only on it. Although that shouldn't stop you. Also have you tried it on another computer and copy it over?

I had a bad kingston 2gb micro sd, winxp would see a drive, but nothing on the drive and no file allocation table (fat) for size (it would say drive i: 0MB) they are great at exchanging out a new card and only took a week for a new one to arrive.

I'm thinking about returning the card.

Which is better, through the retailer at which I purchased it,

or through Kingston company?
