Apparently a few other people on the McAfee forums have experienced this little problem.

But while skimming through, the solution seems to require another internet-connected computer, and a flash drive.

It's worth posting anyway, though:

As you boot your computer, load task manager as fast as possible. Wait for the virus to load, and pop up on task manager , and then end it. Then just get any malware remover to get rid of it.

a good malware remover is Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Maybe if you try enough times you can use internet explorer to download it. I've used it before and it works like a charm. You could always dl onto a flash drive and install onto your infected computer I think.

Well according to this site, XP Pro Antivirus 2010 blocks all executable but it seems like u can launch IE just fine. That site also tells you how to remove it but the actual virus must be gone or else those problems will just regenerate. My suggestion is that you TRY to run MBAM but if it gets blocked at any point or it just won't work, have a look at Rydian's Virus Removal Guide.

I've had a few problems with fake anti-virus, the last problem I had was the worst. It was blocking my applications and randomly opening pages to porno websites. On my family computer. Ouch. I don't even look at porn on the family computer.

I found this usually works...

- When the anti-virus thing pops up, right click and hit Properties, if possible. Look at Location and find that location on your computer. Delete the folder that the location leads to.
- Open Task Manager, find the window that the fake anti-virus is under, right click, and go to Go to Process. Make sure you know what the executable name is (like if you do this process with Firefox it'll lead to firefox.exe), and then end the process. This should stop further anti-virus pop-ups.
- Go to Search and search for anything related to the name of the virus. If it's called Guild's Fuck You Program (just as an example), search things relating to that. Make sure items in the search aren't crucial and delete all of them.
- Run sensitive scanners or other good anti-virus programs.
- If it's blocking your programs, do Start->Run and enter the executable names. Task Manager is taskmgr.exe, Firefox is firefox.exe, Malwarebytes is mbam.exe, just as a reference. You can find executable names by going to the Properties of each program.

Works for me at least. May be complete bullshit to other people, but I've done this for myself and it works.

Run it on a computer that's virus free, then pop the CD into that computer. Run it 2 times, then boot back into Windows, check in msconfig and remove anything that doesn't sound normal. Reboot, and run the scan once more now. If it picks up nothing your good. Just to be safe download Ubuntu and run a scan with clamAV. Also run a normal scan in Windows after. (Google anything that you didn't get.)

Uh, if you want to start from scratch the best thing to do (that should solve virtually all your problems) would be to reformat your computer. This is a last ditch effort, however, and should only be done after exhausting all other options.

Malware Bytes Anti-Malware is an awesome program, it's managed to kill similar re-direct programs for me before, so I whole-heartedly recommend that you keep it on your new format. It's one of the few programs that I would actually pay $ for. Between Avast and MBAM I haven't had any problems lately.

Guilds information is right on the money too, but make sure that you turn off system-recovery. Some pesky viruses/malware like to hide in there so that once you've gotten rid of them, once you reboot they're back.

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
    run h2testw on it

  • DinohScene @ DinohScene:
when SD cards/microSD write speeds drop below a meg a sec, they're usually on the verge of dying

Samsung SD format can sometimes fix them too
  • Purple_Heart @ Purple_Heart:
yes looks like an faulty sd

@Psionic Roshambo i may try that with my dead sd cards

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    It's always worth a shot
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@The Real Jdbye, I considered that, but i'll have to wait until i can get the eu version in the mail lol
