I agree with THC420 on softmii package being really well done and easy to follow. Plus the wiid theme is really awesome.

depends what you want to do? If you have preloader installed with the two backup launchers you pretty much have the functionality of softmii. You can play out of region games by using the option to force NTSC in the loaders, but softmii with CIOScorp will allow you to do the same thing through the disc menu, without having to set any options or anything. Because of this I find this to be a slicker, more convienint setup. And with the softmii tweak toy you can install custom wii themes. It's a nice setup, but obviously not essential. Installing softmii can be entirely completed in about 20 minutes, so setting it up is really no big deal.

What's the point of installing SoftMii if you play games from usb? In this case you only get cosmetical changes to your system menu with SoftMii and the brick protection from preloader. But you can just install preloader without all unnecessary stuff from SoftMii to get the same protection.

For what it's worth, I never installed SoftMii and I don't really see any point in doing so either. I don't care much for the cosmetic changes it can do (I feel that just leaves more room for bricking) and with USB loader there's not really a great need for backup loaders.

For me, this is all I've done and it's allowed me to do anything that I've desired to do (that is possible at the moment, cause I would love some USB loader to play GC games without having my GC library in the living room.)

HBC installed via TP hack on 3.4u.
Then downgraded to 3.2u for some reason (can't really recall at this point why I did it).

So if you have that much, there isn't really anything else that's absolutely needed. There are plenty of other things you could theoretically get though that can do things you may desire (like SoftMii and it's cosmetic changes).

You need gamecube backup launcher 0.2 to pay burned gamecube titles, or the patched MIOS from the softmii package. If you only want to play wii backups, then USB loader will do the trick.

I have it running on 3.2. when i hold reset it goes to the preloader screen so i assume its working.

yup, so do I. don't know what the other dude is talking about. if you can get to the preloader screen and the hacks are working, then your fine.
