I am not very tech savvy, we got my kid a used 3ds for Christmas, I was not told the unit was hacked, I am getting the arm11 error now, the unit is unusable, I do not have the original memory card and the seller will not talk to me. I've done some research and know what caused the problem but I don't know enough to fix it. I found the needed files but I don't know how to update/install anything.

I have no experience hacking or coding, I know basically nothing about how to do any of this other than what I've read online in the last week and it is not helping

Boot the system while holding the Select button. Which Luma3DS version is displayed?
V10.0.1

Delete boot.firm from the SD card before adding the new files. Make sure you downloaded version 10.2.1 of Luma3DS.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Is the SD card formatted as FAT32? If not, reformat it as FAT32. If the 3DS came with games preinstalled, backup the contents of your SD card before you reformat it.
Formatted to FAT32, still giving the same message in yellow, it's not pulling from the SD card, this isn't the original SD card if that makes a difference, the seller kept it. He thought formatting the console would wipe the cfm, it did not

If you have a spare SD card formatted as FAT32 lying around, I would try it instead (with the Luma3DS boot.firm on it) and see if it works. It could be a problem with the SD card.

It could also be that the SD card reader on this system is broken. Are you able to browse either SD card's contents when in GodMode9?
