i am thinking of getting one of these mini notebooks and was wondering if it was worth it
i am mainly going to use it for surfing eh internet and might carry it with me to college (already taking desktop) and i could use the eee pc as a lightweight laptop
i was thinking about getting the 8.9 inch screen version but wondering if i should go with xp or linux and which Os loads faster
any opinions on whether i should get it would be helpful or any opinions on any other min notebook i should get will also be helpful
i am only thinking to spend about 600 so this would be good and i might get an external hard drive for it

Wait for the MSI Wind comng out in several days.

10" screen, standard 2.5" 80GB hard drive, new Intel Atom, 5.5 hours of battery life with 6-cell battery, Bluetooth, full-sized keyboard, 400$ linux, 549$ windows (which is also 6-cell version)

Better value than the EEE

It would be hot if it had a decent processor in it. According to benchmarks, the Atom isn't much of a performer at all. Apparently the performance of a 1.6 GHZ Atom is near to that of a Pentium M 900 MHZ.

and it uses like 10x less power

Oh and you can overclock it on the Wind by pressing a button.

Oh yeh, don't bother with the mini-note.

The mini-note has a very weak cpu, the VIA C7. It'll be a viable option when they release the new version with the new VIA Nano. But of the ones mentioned, go for the Wind.

On the OS topic, try both of them (on your desktop), then buy a netbook with the one you feel more confortable with. Personally I'd recommend Linux, but be aware that my opinion is a litle biased

I'm actually thinking of getting the EEEPC 1000h when it comes out. I think its better then the MSI Wind. (I haven't looked at MSI Wind wind yet but I heard the new EEEPC 1000h is better in specs.)

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Booo.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.

There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Usually accidentally overdose of ibuprofen here is from people taking like cold medicine then ibuprofen for a headache and the combination is over what they need
