I went with the following:

case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16811147153
video: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16814150447
cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16819103882
mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813131603
ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820231193
power: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817182067
hdd: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822148395

With discounts and mail in rebates and coupons, it all comes out to about $550.

I need one more PC just like this but will order it within the week.
Anyone see anything they'd like to tweak?

Thanks for all the advice you guys gave!

Ok quick note

Do not buy any vidcards yet .. ATI is about to release their HD6xxx series so all their older cards should drop in price

CPU go for AMD X2 possibly X4 if you can still afford it
2GB of DDR3 RAM
AM3 mobo, do NOT go for AM2+ its cheaper and supported but AM3 = future
Samsun Spinpoint F1 1TB

that should cost you about 300 - 350 dollars

make sure you get a 650w or more power supply and a cheap ass case with a 10 dollar dvd ... around 500

Use the onboard vidcard for now.. its not THAT bad and in a few months you can pick up a HD5750 for 100 bucks
Right. Firstly, I'd like to point out that the 128-bit Memory bus on the 5770 begins to hold it back more at higher resolutions. At 1440x900 and the like, you're unlikely to notice a different between that and the 4870. Secondly, the 6000 series are a long way off. They are doing refreshes of this series later in the year (ie. 5890 sort of thing), but it's quite a bit to wait.

Also, the CPUs depend on what you are doing. For Core-heavy games, like Bad Company, the Athlon X4 is better. For games that prefer higher clock speeds, such as the Source engine, get the Phenom X2.

Either way, the Athon X4 and the 5770 aren't going to use more than 500W. And that's being generous. As such, I recommend that you get a lower-rated,but better quality PSU, such as Corsair, Antec, Silverstone, etc. 650W is total fucking overkill for that setup. Unless, of course, it's a shitty PSU that only really puts out part of that.

rosewill is a housebrand of newegg
all of their products have a ultra high failure rate and are made very cheaply, especially stuff like their psu's
even some reports of it frying the whole computer when the psu died

Did I say F1? Sorry I made a mistake there ... I meant F3 have one myself

And I heard some serious rumors that the 6000 series will be released end of this year. But then again that might be just that, rumors

AMD has Black Editions that your able to unlock the multiplier which means you can OC as much as you like or can. And I forgot about the fact there was Athlon lol :x I have a Phenom X4 and works like a charm and wasnt too expansive

650 watt is a suggestion because yes that combo doesnt even require 500 but thinking ahead you might get a HD4000 series now and another one in the future for Crossfire or Nvidia for SLI then you need 550+ and 600+ might aswell if you wanna OC abit. And the price differency between 500 and 650 isnt much and you have programs, I had it standard on my mobo, that can reduce power output.

Videocard yea sure a 48xx will do just fine, I have one myself but yet again .. future people.

The most important things to invest in are mobo/power/cpu cuz those are the ones that will have to last
RAM isnt too expansive to buy extra and videocards are about as expandables as regular batteries. Unless you buy 2x 5980's but that would be WAY out of your budget lol
