I was hoping someone could shed some light what just happened to my Wii.

I recently bought it. It came installed with software 3.4u out of the box. I then installed the Homebrew Channel via the Twilight Hack, then downgraded to 3.2u. After doing all this, I happened to check my console number, and it was completely different than it was before I started messing with it.

Has anyone heard of this happening? Could it be that the software hack transferred over information or the console # from someone else's Wii?

Many thanks in advance for any thoughts.

What do you mean by console nr ??

It's basically the Wii's internet address (and not to be confused with a games friend code), like an email address or a network cards MAC address

Well I play a little bit with the Backup Disc 1.31 (gayfish) and discover that your Wii only have like 10 combination of numbers, so I was able to put it back to original, but I don't think any other application can do this, so you might want to check wich apps did you use....!!!

The console id code or console number is what is used by nintendo to track your purchases via the shop channel...
this code gets changed by the wii during a format of its system memory and or if you do a downgrade from 3.4x
however it does not always happen with the 3.4x downgrade.... just a select few for some reason....
to back up this nummber you could use the setting_replace.dol homebrew available at http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Image:Setting_replace.zip
Or by using the wiibackupdisc (gayfish disc).

Hi everyone,

Yes it's the console id number (16 digits- XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX) that you register a friend with, etc.

Well funny enough, and this shows you how new I am to the Wii or game consoles for that matter, I put in a new SD card and thought I was formatting it by using the settings tab, but in fact formatted the actual Wii. Duh!!! I have a mac and only now just learned how to format FAT16, which isn't that easy. So that's why I was looking to have the Wii format it.

So, I did all that before the entire downgrade session.

I guess it may have reset twice then.

I was just freaked out by it, but it sounds normal.

Thanks for the feedback, esp Kitt050383 - You guys are FAST!!

Cheers!

It's been discontinued but you can find em second hand. It's the FiiO model K1.
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@SylverReZ nice. I've been using my BTR5 pretty much daily, got it in late 2020. Mostly use it as a desktop DAC though and the battery has already swelled up in it once, so I had to replace it. Some day I gotta grab a proper desktop DAC that doesn't have a battery lol

@K3Nv3, Yeah, cheap and nasty earbuds don't deliver the best mids, they end up sounding really muddy.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Sicklyboy, I got mine around 2022 (iirc) and it was brand new, never opened, and for £15 too compared to paying nearly £30 elsewhere.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Sicklyboy, That sucks when the battery already begins to swell up. You considering on a desktop replacement, and if so, which one?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@SylverReZ damn 15 is shockingly cheap for that. Even 30 feels like a good price just given what a bunch of other FiiO stuff costs. Granted, not familiar with what those were originally selling for, so who knows lol

As far as a replacement for my BTR5, I don't really have my eyes set on anything specific yet but it'll likely be from either Fiio or Schiit Audio.

@Sicklyboy, Originally when it came out, they sold for around $40 USD according to FiiO's news bulletin. https://www.fiio.com/newsinfo/54677.html

@Sicklyboy, I would prefer FiiO as the better brand for a USB DAC.

  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@K3Nv3, all depends how much money you wanna spend. I had skullcandy headphones and shit way back when but I never liked anything as much as the headphones (and earbuds) I use nowadays

@SylverReZ yeah fwiw I've been quite happy with my FiiO BTR5 so I don't have any specific reason to not a FiiO again. Just gotta see what's available and how much I'm trying to spend lol

I have the FiiO X1-ii, and love what it does, but the battery life is kinda ass and the sluggish, unresponsive menu makes me regret my purchase a little.

(not the wii u version, specifically the switch version)

Frankly not. That's like a 'cheat engine' for BoTW, right?
