A definite integration's definition is what it is trying to show. The limit of the infinite series's sum of a series of rectangles drawn under a curve at a recurring width and height determine by the y value of the equation is equivalent to that of an integral of a curve. It is similar in a sense, I guess to the definition of differentiation is also found by limits and it is similar.
