HDMI From PC to TV

hello. I'm trying to connect an hdmi dongle to my tv. this has worked before, but now it doesn't want to connect. I get a "device decryptor request failed" error.

Assuming by dongle you mean one of those tiny computers (sometimes officially non-general purpose like chromecast/ezcast/etc) that only use USB for power, it likely means that the manufacturers tried to do proper USB handshaking instead of just having the power wire connected (good) but either the part/code responsible for it has gone bad, or the cable did, or indeed not enough power is getting to it in the first place (try with a power brick and/or Y cable)

Do you have connected other HDMI devices to your TV ?

Try A Different Turn-on Sequence For Your Components: If you have a habit of turning on your TV first, then your Blu-ray Disc player, or other HDMI source component, try the reverse turn-on sequence and see if that works. If you have a Blu-ray Disc player, or another component, connected to a home theater receiver and then to the TV – try different startup combinations and see if that works.

You might want to be a bit more specific with your situation to get help on this. For example, telling us where the error message comes from (PC or TV).

“HDMI from PC to TV” sounds like a HDMI cable running from your PC to your TV, so your problem would either be the display looking weird or not working at all. This scenario doesn’t usually give error messages.

“HDMI dongle to my TV” sounds like you’re either using a HDMI Receiver dongle (like Steam Link) or you’re using a smart TV dongle (like Amazon Fire TV Stick). If it’s a Receiver, you may need to re-pair your dongle to your Tranceiver that’s sending it the signal. If it’s a Smart dongle, you probably need to set it back up using whatever smartphone app it tells you about on screen.

“Device decryptor request failed” in google shows posts for USB failing to handshake and tell the PC what the device connected actually is. That shouldn’t apply to HDMI unless you’re using a USB to HDMI adapter.

the error is on the computer. I didn't have this problem before. i even tried windows button + P to use more than one display. beforehand, the dongle was read as "test device." also, the dongle no longer flashes while the receiver does.

And can you tell us the male and model of your transceiver and Receiver? Also, is the transceiver connected to your PC by USB or HDMI?

Also, what’s the distance between the two?

Have you tried a different HDMI/USB cable, if you can?

it's called a nyrius aries prime. both the dongle and the receiver receive power. the dongle has an hdmi port and a usb port. the receiver has the same except that the receiver plugs into a normal power outlet. it's as if the dongle isn't receiving power.

hmm..I tried fiddling with the sync buttons and using different cables, but the result is the same even on two pcs. I've noticed that there appears to be no lights from the dongle, yet the pc detects it with the error I mentioned above.

If there’s no light then it’s possible either it’s not getting enough power or that the HDMI handshake isn’t happening. You can try checking your display settings to see if it’s detected at all, but most likely it’s a power issue.

As you’ve tried other cables, there’s also the possibility that it’s dead.

The best thing for you to do at this point is contact Nyrius for assistance, and maybe see if they can either fix it or replace it for you (assuming it’s still under warranty).
