The HBC isn't the first thing in line for piracy, cause erm.... it needs an exploit to install it. So things like the TP hack are the first thing in the chain.

Anyway, lets not drag this topic off topic cause I'm sure 99% of readers of this forum are getting bored with all the constant fighting.

Nonetheless, if they didn't prevent people from installing unsigned things to the nand, then I'm fine with the advancement. We may even see a custom IOS installer that can use this new method, instead of relying on trucha bugged or custom IOSes. That would be easier than anything like TBR, DOP-Mii, etc.

A cIOS installer that uses MINI is far more likely.

Many of the apps removed were simply outdated apps by devs who wouldn't dream of putting their stuff on a site called ShadyBrew (e.g. PatchMii, PatchMii cIOS Installer, xyzzy etc.)

More info: HBC now uses IOS58 if possible for USB 2.0 support. All apps which install cIOS or patched IOS of any kind are being removed from WiiBrew as patched IOS are no longer necessary because of HW_AHBPROT allowing full hardware access and USB 2.0 support via IOS58.

Possible yes, but unlikely to be done soon. When installing something with a patched IOS, it's using 99% of the regular way to install stuff, only thing to worry is to patch the IOS so it accepts the trucha signed(unsigned) content. If you do with the HW_AHBPROT access, then you need to write the nand access all by yourself, you need to know what all it writes to nand, what attributes, and whatnot.

I can see that as being a huge freaking hurdle. But would it not be possible, since the IOS is in memory, that it can be patched on the fly there and then just use the nand functions to write content? I'm sure I'm missing the big picture here.

It'll still load everything fine, and it does NOT remove cIOSs.
So you can do the update.

Heres another question. Lets say someone makes an app that now relies on HW_AHBPROT for it to function, what will happen when someone puts it into a forwarder channel? Is there still a way to make the forwarder channel do HW_AHBPROT and then ensure that ios58 is being loaded without losing any functionality? Or what about also apps that my be launched via priiloader, is priiloader going to have to be adjusted to allow the ability of this?

It's the same.
There's no need to change it if there's no new system menu update.

Some of the apps removed weren't deprecated at all, and didn't need a cIOS (eg DOP-Mii). WiiSCU was removed for some reason and that was so NOT deprecated. After all it's probably what most of the people without a truchabugged IOS used to install their IOS58 before that nice installer with a nice progress bar came out (I really want the src for that ;P)
